tonyclaret
Hi, I have spotted what seems a great deal in principle on a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.2. Cost : $577 Shipping: $77 To my reckoning about £420! Trying to get my head around what duty I would actually pay any is it worth after this paid. Most saying its 25%. It then becomes a bit of a grey area, might save myself £50 in the end possibly. Thoughts, cheaper ways around it? Buy two and sell one? Thanks T Edited July 8, 2012 by tonyclaret
RhysP
It would be about 25% - it's VAT at 20% & the import duty (which is around 3-5%). This is added to the combined cost of the item & the shipping cost. The other things to bear in mind, especially with electrical items, is that you'll need some kind of transformer to use it in this country (unless it has user switchable voltages) & also if it's made for the US market then the warranty will probably not be valid in this country, and even if it is shipping the amp back to the US for any repairs will be pretty expensive. If it was me buying this & I was only saving £50 I'd just buy one over here & save myself all the potential hassle.

chris_b
+2 I'd need to be saving a lot more than £50 to import anything.

Bassman Steve
I have imported a couple of things recently and a rule of thumb which seems to work in that you pay in Sterling and 80% of the price in dollars, taking everything into account.
