Fingerboard Sanding

I'm just going to clean up an unfinished maple fingerboard, should I use fine sandpaper or wire wool?

Frets on? Razor blade!!!!!!!! One of the old fashioned uns from the chemist. Then 0000 wirewool, dry. You can clean the wool in spirits first.
edit:definately not a gillette mach III. Although they do keep shaving for months without changing the blade. I know!
