thicknes of stainless steel for fretless neck

Hi ,
I think about upgrade Ibanez BTB 406 QM.
This bas was orginal as a fretted .
Previous owner defretted this.
Now I want to stick stainless steel strap to the fingerboard .

1.What do you thing - that is good idea ??
2.wchich type of stainless steel i should use
3.wchich thickness ??
