Machines Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 You saw it here first. I've had my Yamaha RBX775 refinished in this lush Moroccan goat leather. Done by a shop in Redditch (Conserve Guitars). My Dad picked up a P bass that had the similar worked done to it and gave it to me as a present last Christmas. By utter chance - I found the shop that did it last month, gave him a call to ask how much to do it again and he gave me a stupid price (less than £101) so I went for it. Dropped it off last Saturday and it took him 4 days to do, amazing turn around ! Love it or hate it, here it is ! Quote
Machines Posted July 10, 2012 Author Posted July 10, 2012 Yes, seam around the edge but sealed using 'custom' boot laces glued into place, it goes from neck joint around the middle to the other side of the joint Quote
Oopsdabassist Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Blimey! I've seen everything now definitely different Quote

Gust0o Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 I thought "dead goat" was a reference to the paint colour, as my iPhone loaded the page picture first - when the text arrived I twigged the leather comment! Looks a superb job. Naive question from me - why? What is it about the leather that works for you? Quote
Kiwi Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Is it leather from these moroccan goats? Gotta be a joke in there somewhere, buggered if I can think of it right now though. Quote
Twigman Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Could you let me know where this was done? I want to do the same with giraffe hide! Quote
ezbass Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 I had visions of a fur covered bass. Looks like a great job; matching strap? Quote
Grassie Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 How does it sound? Surely you lose something tone-wise by having a bass covered in leather... Quote

charic Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Not the easiest shape to work with either! Tidy work Quote

BigRedX Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 The wood of an acoustic instrument has far more influence over the sound than that of a solid bodied electric one. Quote

All that soft tissue damping it down?! It has had zero effect. Quote

Beer of the Bass Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 (edited) The leather is probably no thicker than many modern poly finishes, so if it sounds fine, why worry? It does look very cool, and I bet it feels good too. Edited July 15, 2012 by Beer of the Bass Quote
Machines Posted July 15, 2012 Author Posted July 15, 2012 Yeah - I can play it naked without it feeling too cold. Quote
