bubinga5 Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 (edited) Yep.. i know this a very subjective question... but what i think comes close, is a bass line that does everything required, in a balanced way, to compliment the chords/rythm/song but show the players own personality.. this Freddie Washington on his P bass is just groove central imo... i cant imagine someone playing a better line on this track.. subjective of course.. LawrenceH Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Great 80s bass line! Though probably divides BC users down the middle Dunno if it's the kind of thing you're thinking of since bass is pretty central to the plot (though I think that PR song is similarly built around the bass/drum groove) but how about Mark Adams (Slave) on eg Stone Jam? He was a master of fat grooves with a prominent bass personality Quote
bubinga5 Posted July 12, 2012 Author Posted July 12, 2012 not at all... i think most BC members would say this is some crackin bass playing.... just not the sort that they love... Quote
Jayben Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Yeah.. can't say it's particularly this kind of bass playing that gets my juices flowing.. It'd be interesting to try and learn these tracks from a technical and general education point of view though, and I can appreciate that it's very good Quote
thisnameistaken Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 I think the line on Forget Me Nots is really nice. Slap bass is usually way overdone which is why I think nobody likes it but that's much more restrained and appropriate. Quote
Fat Rich Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Freddie's "Forget me Nots" is like early Marcus Miller stuff, great melodic basslines that fit the song but just happen to be played with the thumb. Quote
merello Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Hate that type of music but even when it first came out I loved that line! Quote

And this is why I just don't get it when people always state that slap requires a mid-scooped tone! No it doesn't! This one is a bit more scooped - but then again it is a 'Ray... Very tasty line, one of my "jam standards". Quote
