spongebob Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Just wondering what value of gear people of BC-world use in the murky world of the pub gig. Expensive go-to bass, or modded ol' reliable? Quote
Telebass Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Don't have anything now above the 500 squids mark... Quote
Bassman Rich Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Played my 1982 P bass on sunday, was a bit miffed when it got clouted by the rhythm guitarist, then again the singer on waving his hands about hit the machine heads and put 2 strings out, on the only song I play a kinda solo bit over the bass drone notes.... doh. Back to the 2003 workhorse I guess Quote
deaver Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Not got anything over £500 at the moment but if I had my 83 MIJ Precision would still be my pub gig bass Quote
SlapbassSteve Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Had been using my MIM Jazz/MIM Precision (only cost me £400 for both of them- bargains!) but for the last few gigs I've used my modded Squier Standard J because I actually reckon it's the better bass of the three. Besides, the acoustics are never that great that anyone in the crowd can tell the difference! All my cash went into getting an amp that could hold its own without snapping my spine. Quote
LiamPodmore Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 My lovely '86 MIJ Precision. Cost me £380. Liam Quote
stingrayPete1977 Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Other than a Squier Jazz I dont use much these days as it a 4 string all of my others are in the first group, just dont tell the wife Quote
KevB Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 How are we making the valuations here, what the bass cost or what it would cost to replace new? My MIA jazz is my main gig bass when I'm in a band. It was bought S/H for less than £400 but I doubt I'd find an equivalent one again at that price and god knows what one costs new and shiny, over twice that I guess. Quote
Cameronj279 Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Only have one bass and it was under £500. Quote
barneyg42 Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 £1300 Status S2 5-string. Being headless helps with small stages etc but I watch it like a hawk when I'm off stage not playing, bit much for a pub band but I've been wanting one for ages! Quote
nick Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Depends on the music, either a 2004 CIJ '62 Precision with flats or a '84 Tokai Hardpuncher with roundwounds both probably worth no more than £400. Used for any gigs - pubs, weddings, functions etc... Quote
samzemuel Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Only got my one bass which is the sterling by music man 5 string. im starting to find it a bit heavy but generally my workhorse and I do love it!! Quote
BigRedX Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 (edited) I own my basses in order to pay them (at gigs). So long as it look, sounds and plays right, that's all that matters. If I was worried about the safety of my gear at a gig, I'd probably also be be worried about my personal safety too and for me that's more important. Gear can always be repaired or replaced. Nibody Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Think all mine together are probably worth 500! Thats all seven of them... Quote
BigAlonBass Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Where's the "under £100" section? Both of my 'Pub' Basses cost less than that! Quote
warwickhunt Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Value/Price doesn't come into it for me, I gig what I own. My basses range in value from £200 - £5000 and I don't consider the value when I'm doing a gig, as they are instruments to be played and enjoyed. Quote
BottomE Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 There should be a poll option for £75 and under then I'd be checking that box Depends on the pub but if its murky like the OP suggested then it would be the Squier P - £75 Ebay bargain. If its more upmarket then something else would do the job but the Squier would come along as a backup. Quote
Mog Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Just added my sub £500 bass that I use for covers gigs. Sometimes I'll bring one of the Spectors or 'wicks to a pub gig but its a rare treat for myself. Quote

SpaceChick Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Not gigged yet, but when I do it will be with my Ibanez which is £300 worth Quote
Lozz196 Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 (edited) For both my bands - 77 Fender Precision - approx £1400 My rehearsal bass isn`t far off, 78 Fender Precision - £1200 Have to use `em both! Edited September 3, 2012 by Lozz196 Quote
kevin_lindsay Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 I just use whichever bass I'm enjoying at that particular time. All my basses are worth over a grand each. I've always thought that my basses are there to be played, not just looked at! What about the value of your bass amp rig? Mine is about 3-4 thousand worth? Quote
SpaceChick Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 I've got a £200 amp.... Now this I need to upgrade! But I need to have a better understanding on what I need first! Quote
steve-bbb Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 (edited) if its just a pub and/or somewhere i dont personally know then i only take the squier J (150 squid) all other gigs and 'ok' pubs that i know i take the TRB Edited July 14, 2012 by steve-bbb Quote
