I covered 'squeeze me macaroni' as a college audition and I got in no bother! Great band. There's just something about Mike Patton that I love.

A looooong time ago I discovered Shudder To Think. They were a punky/math rock band from the US, with falsetto vocals. If you've got a penchant for two or three minute songs with more key and timing changes than you feel is conceivably possible during a two or three minute song, fire up your Spotify and listen to their Get Your Goat album. Even now I try and play along with a few of the tracks and struggle to work out what's going on. Wonderful stuff.

Also, check out Tubelord.

Diablo Swing Orchestra, they mix Swing and Metal music and do a very very good job I must say!

What's some other unique bands you know?
[/quote]I don't know. The trumpets dont work at all to me. It all sounds a bit 'soundtracky'

I have always had a soft spot for Hybrid Kids - A Collection of Classic Mutants.
Incredibly diverse and bizarre cover versions by Morgan Fisher.
One example

The other tracks are nothing like this

most of the new-to-me music i've heard over the last year or so has been heard on radio 3.

"in tune" in the evening throws up some fantastic performances and the early michael nyman i listened to this week has been some of the most arresting music i've heard in years.

Even more than old Dillinger Escape Plan? I love them but so many of their songs just seem like noise sadly.

Samla Mammas Manna, a Swedish prog band.
Their music ranges from humouristic folk-like stuff to Henry Cow live craze, and they know exactly how much to deviate from theory - both compositionwise and playingtightwise.
I lurv them to death.

They go under three names:
Samla Mammas Manna
Zamla Mammaz Manna
von Zamla

Here's a nice, sympathetic something from the von Zamla period.
