SlapbassSteve
R.I.P a fantastic bassist and still far too under-recognised. Inner City Blues is one of my favourites http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_f3wiU7VTAU
barneyg42
Very sad. He seems like such an amazing person in the Standing in the Shadows of Motown film. RIP Bob.
Saw this a while back and had been meaning to buy the DVD, have just ordered it. 006
I saw Bob play with the Funk Brothers at the Manchester Apollo...Think it was 2004. Brilliant gig... R.I.P Bob
Linus27
Just heard the news through dave_bass5. Very sad and shocking and as already been mentioned, has taken the wind out of my sails today also. I remember reading on Bob's forum that Fender have the signature bass all ready but he said they kept holding back from releasing it waiting for the right time. Sadly, I can now see this being released soon but for the wrong reasons now. A little too late Fender R.I.P Bob, the unsung hero of bass. Cairobill
Was just listening to him yesterday and didn't know he had died until I saw this thread just now. A great contributor to pop music who's lines will live on for an extremely long time. Which is a major achievement for any one of us. PlungerModerno
Sad, He was among the first great EB players, and a legend in his own lifetime. Unforgettable.
The fasting showman
I've yet to hear any mention of his great playing on Robert Palmer's 'Every kind of people', apologies if I've missed it elsewhere. A great P bass sound on that record; equally as fat and clear a sound up the 'dusty end' or on the low E. One of those records that cropped up on the radio when you were a kid that formed your taste in sound, gear, what a bass does in a track, counter melodies etc, certainly true for me. 'What's going on' is a great showcase and contrast for both Jamerson and Babbit and their respective attributes. Pretty nifty songs, arrangements, production and so on too, it doesn't get much better really.
