Look carefully: as 1957 was the first year of the split-P pickup, the pre-production pickup cover in the picture has a different profile than the standard pickup cover we've all come to, well, either love or hate as your personal style may be.

Bizarreguitarreno in the 'States has a Fender Custom Shop one in Butterscotch. Also, grguitars rattle 'em up, too.

But you can see why players who were constantly trying to get full sized DB's to gigs by public transport must have thought this was a godsend. Until they tried picking up the all valve amp anyway ;)
