Ian Savage
Going to be looking towards putting a video together for the Blacklist Saints at some stage in the next few months, sop scouring around for ideas and inspiration - we're looking at doing it relatively cheaply, so inspired by LiamPodmore's post in the 'Favourite Solo' thread, any favourite cheap-but-awesome videos? This were Liam's, btw: And I'm already bumming off these vids:

Low End Bee
Cost = 0p I think it's cool.
lettsguitars
You should watch Adam Buxtons bug. Some very low budget stuff in there.
Roland Rock
Where's BRX? The Terrortones' 'Stickypants Trance' vid was cheap and superb.
BigRedX
The trick with low budget videos is to call in favours and make the most of what you already have. IMO the hardest part is having a good idea in the first place and them finding someone who can shoot, light (if required) and edit and do a good job, but who isn't going to charge you full professional rates. Students and people looking to build up their portfolio are good places to start especially if you have a great idea that will translate into a fantastic looking video at the end. That way everyone wins. StickyPants Trace cost about £300 in total to make and the largest cost was hiring the Galleries of Justice dungeons in Nottingham to shoot some of the scenes. The "doctor's office" was built in my spare room and the live scenes were done in the bar/club where Mr Venom works. Extras were friends and for the live audience we put a request on our Facebook page. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Szbt1gQGEas However it's possible to go even cheaper than that... Below is a quick video that we did for the (title) track to the White Dolemite "whitespoitation" soundtrack album. This was put together quickly when the local arts website wanted something for the feature they were doing about the project - we're going to be making a proper video for it next month once the track has been mixed and mastered. Filmed in a couple of hours last week and edited the same evening, total cost £0.00 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLHdgIr-LvM
LiamPodmore
Original Junkie isn't my video btw peeps, just a suggestion of mine, absolutely love that band though. More cheapies: This is my bands first video, cheaper than the cheapest of cheap things: Shot by one of our mates, with a camera borrowed from college and our guitarists camera, edited by our vocalist and everything in terms of props and stuff was our own. Add in a female for good luck and jobs a good'n. I'll throw this one out there as well. Not as cheap as others likely are, but it wasn't exactly a high budget jobbie. Low End Bee
BRX is right. Call in favours. Take lots of video. Spend a looooooong time editing. The band did everything with ours. If you can arrange a song you can edit a video. I would say adding a bit of humour can really help. If you go for intense and moody you can just come across as miserable and poor with a low budget. Kiwi
These are my favourites: OK Go with the treadmills http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTAAsCNK7RA And Feist http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABYnqp-bxvg All done in single shots as well - so no mistakes allowed with the choreography... mike257
I see you're in the West Midlands, so only an hour or two from us in sunny Scouseland. There's a guy local to me who's building up quite a portfolio with local bands, he's doing increasingly good work. He's done a few for this band here, but this is a good example - location shots out and about near where they live, performance shots in the corner of the basement where the band rehearse and in a park up the road, looks ace. Ian Savage
Wow, I'm offline for a day and TONS to think about! Thanks all - Low End Bee: totally appreciate the idea on the humour front, but I don't think the tunes we've got would suit so gonna have to go all moody and see if we can get away with it! Shall get in touch with your guys if you can point me in the right direction, cheers Mike...
Ian Savage
I'll throw this one out there as well. Liam
Mmmmm, that looks closest of the lot to what I've got in my head for the 'performance' parts of the video (cool location, 'industrial' lighting); shall start thinking about rigging up a metric crapload of security floodlights as I did for a lighting effect ages back This too is pretty close to what we're all thinking... richardjmorgan
Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but one of my bands is looking to do a video at the moment (on the super cheap), so this was all quite pertinent/interesting. Love the Red Fang ones. Also thought people might like to see this, which my mates' band made last year, for pretty much no money. I was rather impressed. (Full disclosure: I am the cyclops' voice on this song, but sadly wasn't around for the video shoot so that's not my sexy cyclops torso.)
