PURPOLARIS Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-precision-bass-/120952087652?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item1c294e6464 The annoying thing about these people is that genuine honest people get fooled. His tutor rated it though so it must be good. Quote
gjones Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 (edited) Yeah looks like a bitsa bass with a stripped and revarnished body and with a Fender decal stuck on the headstock. It may be a good sounding and playing bass but it isn't a Fender. Honest enough to admit it in the questions and answers section. Edited July 18, 2012 by gjones Quote
SlapbassSteve Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Been watching this one myself, interesting how he's deliberately letting bidders make up their own minds, I think he knows more then he's letting on. It'll either go for next to nowt or some poor fool will put £250 on thinking it's the real thing. Gotta admit I've put a cheeky bid on, would be a good spare for rougher gigs... Quote
PURPOLARIS Posted July 18, 2012 Author Posted July 18, 2012 His "tutor" would have told him it wasn't a genuine Fender. He's clearly at it. Quote
Al Heeley Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 shouldnt there be a serial no. on the headstock? Quote
mckendrick Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012
....with a Fender decal stuck on the headstock.
....and an awful repro at that. Quote
LawrenceH Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 look at buyer transactions. some tutorial books and a 'fender precision bass upgraded' back in 2010. I reckon he bought it as a Fender and got scammed unwittingly Quote
discreet Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 (edited)
shouldnt there be a serial no. on the headstock?
It's a pre- late 76-type logo, so the serial number would be on the neck plate. However, there is no serial number on the headstock or the neck plate. Edit: Or anywhere else, come to that. Edited July 19, 2012 by discreet Quote
Rick's Fine '52 Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Forget serial number absences, since when did period Fenders have a truss rod adjuster at the headstock end?, let alone the headstock shape, and a dozen others. I feel someone is gonna get shafted though. Quote
pst62 Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 7 screw bridge? ....it's more than likely a stripped back early Westfield, Gear4music etc. Quote
SlapbassSteve Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Bids've all been cancelled, it's gone now! Half expecting it to resurface in a couple of days with a more honest description. Quote
I think I might have scared him off, I sent him this about an hour ago. Dear peds858, Hey mate, Do yourself a favour and change the description of this bass, as I can guarantee you that it is NOT a Fender! Here's a few things that are glaringly wrong! 1. Fender's have the truss rod adjuster at the heel of the neck, not at the headstock. 2. The headstock is the wrong shape, 3. The bridge is wrong, yours has 7 screws whereas a Fender has 5, 4. The Machine heads are not stamped with the Fender logo. 5. There is no serial number on the neck plate. - unraveled1962 Quote
PURPOLARIS Posted July 19, 2012 Author Posted July 19, 2012 Before I started this post I sent the guy a message telling him it wasn't a Fender and it wasn't even a Squier and that he should change the description before the Ebay police pulled the auction.. He replied saying thanks for the information but didn't do anything about it. I reported it to Ebay after that, hopefully they collared him because he was well warned. Quote
Mattbass97 Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 i was watching this item out of curiosity and never even checked for the stupidly obvious evidence proving it was fake! im on higher guard from now on!! Quote

Err, because it wasn't made by Fender, perhaps? Like I said above: Passing off p*sses me off. Quote
