geofio
Beedster, you are spot on with your observation with the strings not lining up with the pole piece on the pickups, this is a recent thing and to be honest it is laziness on whoever put that bass together, some say it does not matter if the string lines up or not, well i disagree i want my string right in the middle of the pole. and it is a simple thing to rectify, it should not be happening !!! full stop, and QC at Rickenbacker should be picking up on that, i emailed them myself . they are defo better now than they were 2 or 3 years ago, but i wouldn't buy one blind. I sold Paul Gray a really nice 77 maple 4001 a few months back and he was chuffed with it.
earhook
Got the 4003 today and am over the moon with it. Everything seems to be pretty much spot on. The action was a smidge higher than I like so I adjusted it slightly. Intonation is perfect, pickups sound great.. that neck pickup is a dirty bugger! I have ordered a treble bezel with the cove from rickysounds and as soon as it arrives I will ditch the pickup cover and fit the bezel. It's right in the way for plectrum playing with the heel of your hand on the bridge. The neck feels like my old Kramer forum 4,.. quite chunky at the nut end and the knob configuration is downright weird, but that just something I will have to get used to. I love the glossy neck and my schaller straplocks appear to work with the ric strap buttons. Anyway, thumbs up from me for the 2014 4003!
