BassBod
Thanks for that - I had a tape of his years ago, used to love it. I've seen Fred live a couple of times over the years, and its always refeshing to hear fantastic and musical playing on a Squier (?) bass. Who needs all that fancy wood. Mind you, i'd love to hear him play that Shuker/Lamaq acoustic Jon told me about... BB
Oscar South
I've had some Fred T. B. CDs for years, a till person at a local Spar lent me the CDs after they heard me talking about playing bass . Interesting to see him play, really impressive technique. My bass tutor at Uni Chester (Ben Broughton if anyones seen him play, another exceptional musician) is friends with him and says he may get him into uni as a guest tutor next year, I hope so. Says that you can't understand anything he says though, that hes just like "Just play something like this *incomprehensible virtuosic bass playing*", also that hes also a brilliant jazz guitarist just 'as a side project'. Sounds like a true genius . Edited April 26, 2008 by Oscar South

OutToPlayJazz
Well, there's a blast from the past! Fred taught me for a while at South East Derbyshire College, way back in the dark ages (or the 80's!)

And he definitely knows his sh*t. He teaches at Birmingham Conservatoire, but I believe he teaches at a few other places. Not sure where, I can find out though. He has a solo bass/guitar gig coming up on the 20th of may at Gumbles, (The Surgery Crabbery Street Stafford ST16 2BA).
gafbass02
Lol, Fred was suposed to be my tutor when i was at college too, but was on tour at the time so i only saw him once, a room full of bass players jaws just dropped when he came and did a short demo. I was also assessed by him among others on a short solo piece id written at uni, which should have been nerve-wracking! if i wasnt such an arrogant little sod!
