Darkstrike
Man, that is gorgeous. After seeing the body though, if it were me, I wouldn't be able to have it painted.

I'm wishing there was a magic paint that the bass could wear like a coat so you could change colours and show off the woody goodness! You never know, someone might invent it. Darkstrike
That'd be amazing, a pair of wee buttons hidden in the headstock or some such, one flicks through colours, and the other swaps to transparent.

Ghost_Bass
What about a mix of both? http://www.njxt.com/zik/img/jm5/jm2.jpg This way you get a black bass but retaining the wood grain visible and IMHO the bass looks sexy in this colour, i don't have much love left for plain black basses...
I've been talking to Marc about a change of tack and getting some kind of translucent finish, but in his opinion the grain on the wood is not up to snuff, and after all when I ordered it, it was for a solid colour finish. Plus I was looking for a very light weight body, so he chose accordingly. If I wanted that kind of finish it would have to be spec'd early in the build. I was looking at his vintage sunburst on a Tele, and it's something to think about in the future maybe?.. I think this is lovely...

Si600
Nissan and Honda both had some freaky colours, the Nissan Primera came in a weird purple/green that really depended upon the light to see what it was and the CBR400RR had a black/purple option which was rather good. Just putting them out there for interest really. I've no idea how well they would work on a bass though.

Was popular with the Mods, but I googled 'tonic paint' and didn't find it.
BigRedX
I think you need to google "flip paint". My now red Gus used to be flip purple/green. Because of the way the paint works it has to be sprayed in a single pass and you can't retouch otherwise you get patches that may flip in the opposite direction which somewhat spoils the effect. It also doesn't seem to be as hard wearing as more traditional paint - certainly on my bass the colour had started to flake off in patches which is one of the reasons I had it refinished. I especially keep thinking about a nice vanilla one with dark chocolate pieces. To the point that I've got ice cream out the fridge and stuck it in the microwave. Damn my subliminally led brain! Billy Apple
There's been lots of rain in California lately, so I'm told. This has meant Marc has not been spraying, bringing a bit of a lull in proceedings. However the sun is now out and Marc has got a solid black coat on... He tells me he is going to put a trans-black coat on next for depth and then a matte clear coat. Come on sun-shine! Billy Apple
Another pic... I love the bridge! Just had an email from Marc, he is all but done. He is fitting all the hardware he can, he has also given her full copper shielding. Will soon be shipped from the states for me to fit the tuners, Pup and KiOgons greasebucket wiring loom. Can't wait, hoping will all be done for Christmas! BTW, decided on these knobs...
kevin_lindsay
The heavy knurled knobs are cool - just like the original Broadcaster ones. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished article.
