Grade 8

Hi guys I'm sure some of you will have done your grade 8 rockschool examinations and was
wondering if you did any free choice pieces? I'm looking to do one I think it will be good as i'm fed up of their stock pieces

I have a friend who is one of their chief examiners. If you want I will try and contact him and ask him what he considers a good choice. May take a while as he is always jetting off all over the world to carry out exams.

Just passed my grade 8 with distinction, however I just did three of the pieces out of the book. I felt it was one last thing to worry about with regards to the standard of the piece required.

Just put down the phone to the friend I mentioned. As the last post says examiners are happy for you to play one of the pieces from the book. He also said that there is nothing to stop you picking your own but not that easy to find a piece that is the required standard. He said Jaco would be a good choice and to my suprise he also mentioned Mark King, he did however mention a piece by David Sandborn "Run For Cover" which would be a good choice. I have never even heard of the tune so I quickly did a search and found a PDF transcription which I have posted in the Theory and Technique section on here.. I will be interested in playing this as it does look interesting. I hope this was worth the wait and of course I wish you all the best with your Grade 8.
