davidlovellbass
I'm part of a 60's tribute band, mainly playing british invasion type material and so really need a cab that looks the part but also sounds quite hifi as i also play a double bass in the 50's half of the set. I've been looking at the new Ampeg portaflex 15's but didn't know if anyone had suggestions.
deanovw
Barefaced do silver cloth option on most of their cabs. Retrotastic.
Roland Rock
The Aguilar SL cabs look the part. Other silver cloth fronted cabs include barefaced and EBS. The Purple Chilli are pretty retro looking too, but not sure about their hifi qualities

chris_b
Ampeg cabs weren't used in the UK in the 60's. If you want to be authentic you'll have to get some Vox gear.
Beer of the Bass
Ampeg cabs weren't used in the UK in the 60's. Most genuine 1960s bass cabs (excluding special cases like the SVT 8x10 or some of the JBL loaded american cabs, neither of which is very British Invasion) aren't something many bassists would really want to use now. zero9
Great idea Beer of the Bass. Anyone know a good place to get the Vox style replacement grill / speaker cloth?
Beer of the Bass
Good question. There was an eBay seller who used to have it, but they seem to have disappeared. Hot Rox in the UK have it, but a bit pricey. Antique Electronics in the States have it a bit cheaper, and they've been very quick and efficient when I've dealt with them in the past. bigjohn
I have a vintage Vox 2x15 in my garage that belongs to my mate. I know he wants to sell it, but he doesn't know how much for or what it's worth. Bit of a rare model it seems. There's a thread here > http://basschat.co.uk/topic/146312-vox-2x15/page__p__1308206__hl__vox__fromsearch__1#entry1308206 Which highlights just about how much I know about this and cabs in general. In fact it highlights that I can't even read. I don't know why I'm bringing it back up

davidlovellbass
Really nice looking Vox cabinet, if you could give me a price then i'll start convincing my girlfriend i need another speaker cab as the room full i already have isn't enough. I'm using two Fender valve heads, one a Studio bass which looks like a blackface bassman from a distance and a silverface bassman so having a cabinets wide enough to fit them on top is a consideration. Thanks for the link to the grill cloth, I was going to give my son of bertha cab a 60's facelift.
bigjohn
I've texted him to ask how much he wants for the Vox...
