Anyone else watch her from a performance at the Dingle Festival just as Back to Black came out? Just her, guitar and Dale Davis on Bass, I thought it mesmerising and who needs drummers?! Well worth watching on the BBC i-player....

Yes, was great. Thought with it being quieter, her voice really shone through. Great guitar & bass-playing too.

Whilst I love the album Back to Black, I do think a stripped down version like that would have been great as well.

Yes, having covered "Rehab" and " Love is a Foolish Game" with a band, it was interesting to hear it all stripped down. Also, we had subtitles on as Mrs Y5S is a bit mutton, so it gave me a chance to really listen to the lyrics, I normally "filter" them out in preference to the bassline!

Superb programme, sublime performances esp from Dale Davis.
A very underated player IMO. Any idea what he's doing now?

He's American though he did not sound it on the film.

Nah, not American - he is a Brit for sure - used to see him all the time at Goldsmiths early 90's (Maybe he was at Laurence Canty's class??) - was always carrying his bass with him. Not sure if he played Hofners then.

I sat in on a gig recently with a guy who was her drummer on many gigs he was seriously good. Great 'feel' player and a nice guy too.

We even got to play Valerie :)
