The bassist is playing an Alembic, those first couple of notes in the first few seconds demonstrate the "Alembic sound" perfectly! bobbass4k
Had a bit of an oceansize listening fest and finally got unfamiliar and sleeping dogs down pat. Both absolutely awesome basslines, and a masterclass in playing in odd time sigs but still keeping it groovy (which the whole band is a masterclass in to be honest): Since I assume 95% of you will have had no idea what songs or band I was referring too. Both displaying the heavier side of the band, but heavy as it should be done, interesting and complex as hell. I urge you all to listen, there's a lot worse things you could do with 14 minutes. Clarky
The opening 'jazzy' bass line to Boogie Nights by Heatwave. Nice little warm up exercise methinks. Cameronj279
the last bassline i learned (well i learned these both on the same day) was golden boy by primus and the intro to mr pink by level 42, the only reason I even attempted mr pink was genuinly to see if i could do it (i've only been playing 6 months so i thought it would be funny) but it turns out that I can play it lol. tauzero
Coincidentally, as the REM thread is one thread away as I type this, REM's "Sidewinder sleeps tonite". Nothing that's hard to play but I seem to be having a bit of a mental crash of gears going from the end of the verse into the chorus - nothing that a bit more playing along won't sort out. bumnote
Paul Mcartneys something which I think is a little busy, but fun to play. I rephrase that Harrisons Tune, PMC lines My best friend has written a Banjo tutor with accompanying CD of old Irish tunes which have all funny timings. Ive been working on those for weeks to record as backing tracks for the CD. They are simple but a real sod to do Edited February 3, 2011 by bumnote
