Pinball Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 As a relatively new player I haven'y played many basses and am wondering what Warwick's actually sound like-especially those Jazz PUP's. Also what sound differences are there between the various models. Can anyone point me to a site somewhere with comparative samples? Alternatively a place near Bristol that keeps a shock of them maybe??? Any help would be appreciated. Ed Quote

It has two Jazz pickups very close to the bridge so gets a very burpy Jaco Pastorious sound. It is probably a more Jazz and funk orientated tone which is a bit like marmite - you either love it or hate it. He usually plays a USA Precision which is an all rounder and the 'in your face' Thumb bass sound wasn't really appropriate for a lot of the covers his band played that night. lowdowner Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 My thumb bolt on 4 string fretted is 'snappy' - it has a very quick attack but a very long sustain and cuts through the mix. It doesn't produce the softer sounds I can hear on other basses like Overwater or Stingray. The 4 string fretless is a whole other beast though - although it is otherwise exactly the same bass, it comes out smother - almost soft - and very dark-jazz in sound. Completely different sounds just because of the frets! Either way - delicious! Quote

(Streamers) My LX6 has SD Basslines as standard (MEC didn't do big enough pick-ups back then) Don't rule out the J/JJ designs: Vampyre, Infinity, Dolphin etc.etc as nearly all off them have coil taps for J/J, and the use of the bridge unit as a humbucker doesn't detract from the overall sound at all. I actually prefer it. Check them out. Quote

There's a lot of versatility on the twinjazz pickup between the 2 coils...more than you would think. But the overall combo is really something to experience! Quote
