Pinball
As a relatively new player I haven'y played many basses and am wondering what Warwick's actually sound like-especially those Jazz PUP's. Also what sound differences are there between the various models. Can anyone point me to a site somewhere with comparative samples? Alternatively a place near Bristol that keeps a shock of them maybe??? Any help would be appreciated. Ed

Warwick_Official
Our YouTube page has a wide variety of demos and product reviews. http://www.youtube.com/user/warwickofficial/ Andy's demo's are somewhat lo-fi, but give you a great feel for each bass. He's a great player and a lot of fun. gjones
I don't know about other Warwick basses but I heard a friend of mine playing his thumb bass recently. It has two Jazz pickups very close to the bridge so gets a very burpy Jaco Pastorious sound. It is probably a more Jazz and funk orientated tone which is a bit like marmite - you either love it or hate it. He usually plays a USA Precision which is an all rounder and the 'in your face' Thumb bass sound wasn't really appropriate for a lot of the covers his band played that night. SlapbassSteve
I'm by no means an expert on these basses, but for me the only tone I've ever needed to hear from them is Stuart Zender's on the first few Jamiroquai albums. Very tempted to invest in one with my next student loan...
funkypenguin
here is a great concert with Stu Zender using his classic "rug" streamer stage 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKACpFNJdfo
Chris2112
The only word I can use to describe the sound of my Ltd Edition Streamer is 'superb'. Wonderful midrange.
lowdowner
My thumb bolt on 4 string fretted is 'snappy' - it has a very quick attack but a very long sustain and cuts through the mix. It doesn't produce the softer sounds I can hear on other basses like Overwater or Stingray. The 4 string fretless is a whole other beast though - although it is otherwise exactly the same bass, it comes out smother - almost soft - and very dark-jazz in sound. Completely different sounds just because of the frets! Either way - delicious!
Pinball
Thanks all, lots of info there. I was well impressed with the Warwick Official links. It was great to see the exctional images of one of the basses and the sound comparisons are great. My ear finds the LX and Streamer Stage ll particularly nice. (Streamers) My LX6 has SD Basslines as standard (MEC didn't do big enough pick-ups back then) Don't rule out the J/JJ designs: Vampyre, Infinity, Dolphin etc.etc as nearly all off them have coil taps for J/J, and the use of the bridge unit as a humbucker doesn't detract from the overall sound at all. I actually prefer it. Check them out.

There's a lot of versatility on the twinjazz pickup between the 2 coils...more than you would think. But the overall combo is really something to experience!
