xilddx
The Police are saving me right now, and I came across this cover of The Bed's Too Big by Foals from a BBC session. I really like it. His voice works really well, reminds me of Terry from The Specials. Got any good ones? No Jaco please http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxaUXvz-P7g
Jones_Stuff
Willie Nelson's cover of Coldplay's 'The Scientist'. i don't like the original but Nelson's is fantastic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v525UGbA448
Josh
The Police are saving me right now, and I came across this cover of The Bed's Too Big by Foals from a BBC session. The space between everything in the original is what makes it for me, and of course Stings vocals are icing on top of it all, but the vocals and keys in this take away from the intimacy of the original. And I just so happened to come across this thread after watching a good few hours of Police documentaries on youtube
Bloc Riff Nut
Alice Russel does an exellent Brown Sugar(it was on a compilaation CD on Mojo magazine about a year ago) I personally enjoy this much more than Mick and the boys. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrnSfCxwPRs&feature=related She also does a good Seven Nation Army; http://alicerussell.com/#/music/tracks/seven-nation-army-featuring-nost This is gonna be one of my favourite threads! kevin_lindsay
A great cover version, if you're not duplicating the original, should make the song different. So, here's Devo's version of The Rolling Stones' "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8I09xjQgMAI&sns=em
Roland Rock
Nice to see Alice Russell love, what a lovely voice. Can we keep Dirty Loops out of the thread too please? :-) I love a good Beatles cover. Two of my favourites are Stevie Wonder's 'We can work it out' and Earth Wind and Fire's 'Got to get you into my life' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zB24z00ajU4 Another rockier favourite is Monster Magnet's version of Howlin Wolf's 'Evil' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yN4llU46Xok Edited July 25, 2012 by Roland Rock

Chris2112
This one is stunning. Far better than the original, it has such pace and energy and some amazing bass playing (including a solo!). My favourite FGTH tune. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMfE2Se4r9w

peteb
Does anyone else think that Stevie Ray Vaughan's versions of Hendrix tunes (most notably Voodoo Child) are better than the originals?? I think that it's more to do with the rhythm section than anything......
EBS_freak
Seeing the Stones covers reminded me of this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=masNmZy5d6Y I love the Stone's original but this version always seemed to match the mood of the lyrics better... EBS_freak
and whilst I am thinking of Ryan Adams, here's his version of Wonderwall. LiamPodmore
Geniunely think that this is one of the best covers on the web, that chorus really hits with a bang when you first hear it. Despite it being july and that being a Christmas song, i think that's phenomenal. I just love the uke and harmonised whistling, that and the fact that their voices fit together so well. Some of you may recognise them from that rather popular Gotye cover with 5 people playing one guitar. I also think Walk Off The Earth do the best and some of the mose creative covers i've seen in a while, those 5 (6 if you count their producer) people have an unreal amount of talent between them. EBS_freak
This HAS to be my favourite cover though. The Beatles are one of those artists that should never be covered but this just nails it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psJ_rVD88ZM Greg Phillinganes synth bass line is just sublime... it just gets more incredible as the song goes on.
