pobrien_ie
Can anybody out there suggest some good tube emulator settings for this? Finding the "fat tube" and "svt" recommended settings a bit muddy.
chrismuzz
I found the suggested settings on the Sansamp BDDI weren't to my liking either. Always got the best results by starting with all the controls flat, and just making a tone from scratch. Not the answer you were looking for but I hope it helps
pobrien_ie
Well at least now I know it's not just my imagination! On other forums I've seen a lot of love for the suggested settings. Didn't mind them too much until it came to a band situation. Then they were awful....non-existant in the mix.

Blend on Full, possibly boost the Gain a bit, to get some grind, but other than that, everything at 12 o`clock. Sounds great.

dincz
I used a BDI-21 directly driving a power amp and couldn't really get a sound I liked - until I tried boosting the low-mids with the parametric eq on my channel strip. The BDI-21 on its own puts a big hole in the mid frequencies but if you can eq your way around that, it really shines. EDIT: Or simply cut the lows and highs on the BDI. That will bring back some of the definition in the mids. Edited July 27, 2012 by dincz
Lozz196
This could be why i like it, I favour a scooped sound, so using this set flat, into an amp set flat is ideal for me. I`ve used it for recording, and it really sounded good.
discreet
I use a BDI as a pre driving a power amp too, and use the suggested SVT setting with blend on full and a bit more drive. Sounds immense, though I'm in a rock trio, so there's no problem being heard! Edited July 27, 2012 by discreet
pobrien_ie
Thanks everyone...going to try all these suggestions and see what works best for me!
Truckstop
I found it a little muddy to and then I maxed out the town control on my basses and it sounds great. That little bit of treble sparkle seeps through and really adds that extra bit of definition when playing with the band. Another trick is to leave the blend control at about 2 o'clock. Funnily enough when I got the BDI first I just tried it direct into a lptop and it actually sounded really good
Truckstop
That's the thing, they sound amazing on their own but not particularly useful in a band setting! Hope it works for you! Truckstop
dave_bass5
Try backing the blend off. I found that by doing this i get a bit more definition and clarity.

But there are lots of variables - which bass, which amp, line-up, and so on and so forth.
pobrien_ie
I'm still struggling to get any decent settings. Everything seems to be a bit muddy. Using it in conjunction with a boss overdrive pedal is clearing things up a small bit though. Using a p bass through an ampeg b100r if that helps. Lozz196
Try the amp with all eq set at midday. Everything on full on the bass, and all controls at midday on the BDI21. From there, it`s a case of tweaking. It is easy to over-mush the sound with these, so having everything flat is the place to start.
pobrien_ie
Great, will try that. I'm pretty happy with the amp's sound, so will be interesting to see what the bdi can add to it. Thanks!
