When I was growing up I liked this particular genre of music but I couldn't describe or name it. I later found that the specific "type" of music I was trying to describe was in fact songs by Burt Bacharach. It wasn't a genre of music per se it just had his stamp on it. I might be wrong about the genre thing but you get the drift :)

Anyway, it's just happened again. i've been struggling to describe the bass style that I would like to play. You know that style with the quick plucking funky yet bluesy short notes dampened kind of thing. It is indeed James Jamerson. God I've been under a f***ing rock. I had heard of him, but now I actually know who he is and what songs he has played on, it has all clicked "Bert Bacharach" style.

Has this happened to anyone else? What was your Burt Bacharach moment? Feel free to help me play like James Jamerson too :)

I think I've had a similar 'Bacharach' moment with 'Nard Edwards.

Never really liked what I regarded as 'disco' but I've had a personal soul revival and listening to his playing in Chic and Sister Sledge, more particularly to learn it for my function band, its quite simple but so, so difficult to play with anything like the same feel and groove as Bernard. Thinking of You is my current fave.

I just read Nile Rodgers' autobiography. Fascinating stuff. Need to check out more of his music now.

+1 easy but not easy. Its in the nuance which is personal and therefore hard to replicate.
