I'm sure this has been covered before but can anyone tell me what wah pedals are good for bass? I will be using it with distortion and fuzz! Many thanks
xgsjx
It really depends on what you're after. Here's some ideas... Mutron 3leaf clover Groove Regulator Digitech Bass Synth Wah Moog MF-101 Iron Ether Xerograph Source Audio Bass Envelope Filter There's loads more too. foal30
Morley Bass Wah goes good with distortion.
dudewheresmybass
As does the ibanez weeping demon
dudewheresmybass
It's also important to recognise the difference between auto wahs/ envelope filters and wah pedals. The wah pedal relies on the movement of your foot to change the tone, whereas the auto wahs and filters use a preset threshold where the peak of our playing controls the change in tone I hope this makes sense
cheddatom
some auto-wahs are set by a rate control, rather than triggered by an envelope I like my zvex wah probe blended with some distortion. I haven't found anyone else who likes it on bass though, so I wouldn't recommend it! The dunlop bass wah, and Ibanez demon seem to be the most popular
Rammstein2012
only ever used one bass wah, the Dunlop bass wah pedal. for what i use it for, i'm more than happy with it Edited July 31, 2012 by Rammstein2012
EskimoBassist
The Dunlop 105Q is a very popular wah pedal and can be had nice and cheap on this forum. I had on for years and loved it - it gets a bad rep from some around here but I really would take the negativity with a pinch of salt. It's a great wah, isn't too expensive, built like the proverbial and is very tweakable. My personal choice over the Ibanez Weeping Demon and the Morley Bass Wah. xgsjx
Also worth pointing out is that some filters can be controlled with an external source (rocking foot pedal, hand controller, other device). What sort of sound are you after?
MacDaddy
Bassballs. Auto wah-y and a bit bass synthy and a bit bass distortiony too. Spend a bit of time with it and adjust playing to suit, and it can be a very versitile stompbox.
janmaat
Very happy with my WD7 ie. "weeping demon". I really like the settings it has, good for all sorts of things, e.g. when I use it with a drum sequenzer it does some really cools sounds. Very versitile piece of kit, super sturdy, just a bit heavy and large on my board.
JimBobTTD
I was also impressed with my Ibanez Weeping Demon. I used it with distortion and it handled it really well. The band has called it a day and the other band has no need for it, so it is in a drawer at home waiting for another band to come along! dudewheresmybass
Fair points about the auto wahs, I was trying to make a sweeping generalisation to emphasise the differences between pedal and actual wah. Point taken!

dannybuoy
I've tried loads of filters and wahs but never been 100% happy with one. If I was going to buy another right now though it would be the 3Leaf Wonderlove: http://www.3leafaudi...nvelope-filter/ Edited July 31, 2012 by dannybuoy
sixdegrees
I like the Morley Dual Wah for live stuff. Two different wah settings at the tap of a toe, and no stamping to turn it on and off. Great volume boost knob too.
Mog
I'm a bass wah + fuzz fanatic and keep coming back to the Crybaby Bass Wah. Its the best built and best sounding IMO. My signal chain goes like this: Tuner > Comp > MXR Blowtorch > Wah > MXR M-80 > MXR Blowtorch > Wooly Mammoth clone >>modulation fx. Wah and extreme bass fuzz dont go well together IME so I have the first Blowtorch in the chain set to a vintage type fuzz and that shapes the wah tone nicely. The Blowtorch after the wah is set fairly hot and because of the settings there is little effect from the wah. The Mammoth clone sounds crap with the wah TBH and I dont bother with combining them. The M-80 is really nice after the wah pedal although I dont have a lot of dirt dialled in on it. Long story short is I prefer smoother fuzz/distortion before the wah and heavier/more high gain fuzz/distortion after it.
tayste_2000
Having owned loads of wahs I can honestly say the Kimbara/Shin Ei Wah is my favourite and not to pricey if you can find one. I still really want to try a Wilson vintage wired 12 position Q wah, I had their Freaker model and it was great just had a bit to much LPF on it for me, TBH I'd probably love that now
SimonEdward
' timestamp='1343681516' post='1753714'] I'm sure this has been covered before but can anyone tell me what wah pedals are good for bass? I will be using it with distortion and fuzz! Many thanks
Hello! I haven't seen the MXR M188 Bass Auto Q mentioned yet.. so this gets a recommendation. I use it early on in the signal path; after my Octave and before my Chorus, which works well for me. (Needs 9V, 100mA power and negative centre). Like most effects, I start with all the controls at the 12 o'clock position and go from there.. the M188 is certainly one of the more versatile Wah pedals for a stomp-box with 6 knobs, if not the most control-able from the floor. Hmm. . Range: controls frequency floor of effect; “Q” control: adjusts the intensity; Volume: nuff said; Decay: controls drop off decay; Blend: controls mix between wah and 'shimmer' effect;. Rate: controls the speed of the 'shimmer' effect. It's not the cheapest - I picked one up in good condition from a popular (?) auction site for £70. I think this model may have been discontinued. Good luck and let us all know how you get on?
D.I. Joe
Morley Dual Bass Wah works wonders for me! It's optical rather than a pot which I believe would wear quicker, especially as I sometimes use my wah for a tremolo effect
