redd
Hi dudes, Just recently I've been dabbling in the world of FX and I was wondering if I could pick your brains? I've bought myself a mark bass supersynth, a source audio multiwave distortion, I'm in the process of acquiring a source audio pro envelope filter and I've got a boss tuner. My questions!: Is there an optimum order in which to place these pedals to get the most out of them? Also can anyone recommend a decent pedalboard and power supply? Thanks oh ever knowledgeable ones! Andy
I would do. Tuner > Synth > MWBD > BEF But play with it. See whats bests for you. The MWBD works well in front of the BEF
EskimoBassist
^ what he said. As far as a pedal board goes, how much space do you think you're going to need to grow? Best to be realistic about it now than having to quickly rehome them when you grab one or two more. You should check out: http://pedaltrain.com/ I've got the Junior with a soft case and PT-2 with a hard case. I think you'd be able to fit them all on a Junior, but you can check to see here: http://pedalboardplanner.com/ Alternatively, check out http://www.diago.co.uk/ I had a Tourman for ages (when I had a serious pedal addiction) and it served me well. The advantage of the pedaltrain over this however of course is that you can route your cables in between the metal bars to make it all neat and get your pedals closer together. You can also mount a power supply underneath. As for power supplies there are lots of great ones out there but I will firstly recommend the Diago Power Station (http://www.diago.co....werstation.html) Lots of spare power on tap (3000mA!) if you do decide to expand and they carry a whole load of adapters should you need to deviate from the standard 9v dc -ve tip. I've used one for years - never had a single problem. The Super Synth is 12v DC however I see (what a pesky little bugger). Unfortunately therefore you'll still have to power that from it's dedicated charger, it's mA draw is too high for the Voodoo Labs power system which incorporates 12v power, unless if you want to use the pricey GigRig system (which will cost £50 just for the right 12v adapter! http://www.effectpowersupplies.com/supanova-9-12v-adaptor-1153-p.asp. ) EDIT: http://www.musicroom.com/se/id_no/0707667/details.html?kbid=1582 CHECK THIS BADBOY OUT - it will happily power all your pedals and fit under a pedaltrain, job done. I hope that's some help mate, sorry to hear that you didn't get on with the Korg G5. Just shout if you want any more information. Edited July 31, 2012 by EskimoBassist
redd
Cheers guys that's totally useful help, Eskimo no worries about the G5, I really liked it but just couldn't get round the fact it didn't have a true bypass, also fell in love with the mark bass. I'll check out that power supply, you think that the voodoo labs one is a no go? Cheers Andy
EskimoBassist
I'll check out that power supply, you think that the voodoo labs one is a no go?
Yeah it won't put out enough mA from the 12V output for your Super Synth - looks like the T-Rex will do though by a country mile, and there's plenty room for expansion if you decide you want a few more units. I know for a fact your Boss tuner will be fine and I've checked for your Source Audio pedals, which happily sit within the available power outputs from the 9v outputs, so with that you'd be good to go. LiamPodmore
The only thing about the T-Rex stuff is, apart from the Junior, that it isn't isolated outputs. Only the sections are isolated, not each individual output, which can cause problems with some pedals, although you'll probably be fine, just something to take into consideration. xgsjx
GigRig stuff would probably be worth looking at for powering things. As for order, I'd be inclined to put it in the same order as Woody says, but there is no "right" order. Play about with it & find what sound You like. Have fun! eleventhstage
one option would be to get your hands on a boss ls-2 because then you could mix synth tones from the makbass and the mwbd into the bef. theres a lot of options that pedal opens up. redd
Cheers guys, some food for thought
Smythe
I'd also look in to running them through a blend unit (i.e. Xotic X-Blender) to allow the clean tone of your bass to amp signal to cut through the mix.
