Baroque Bordello is another one

Don't know if you are aware of this, but the great exalted one in black, who shows us all how a bass player should be, whose name we are not worthy to mention and without whom we would all be lesser musicians (like drummers or guitarists) ....... claims that Baroque Bordello is his own favourite Stranglers song of all time - see the following:

It should, therefore, be made a crime not to study this track weekly.

I was playing for a "glam" tribute band when i met "the Bass god", got chatting to him and he asked me what band i played with, when i told him his reply was... "so your'e one of those glam rock tossers then".. Luckily i was in a good mood or i would have er.. erm.. Ahh.. Perhaps not..

Just popping in to say that JJ has always been my bass hero. I have the honour of playing some Stranglers songs in my band. We cover No More Heroes and Hanging Around at the moment. We did do Grip, but since we lost our keyboard player we dropped it.

As for the sound, good pick ups on my custom 'Rothers Punk Bass' turned up to full treble and a little natural overdrive on my Laney rig.

No More Heroes and the Hugh Cornwell (2011) version of Golden Brown here ...... although thinking of Peaches and Something Better Change (although not all in the same set usually).

Keep trying to put a Stranglers song in The Daves set. Something Better Change - with me on vox - or No More Heroes. But the rest of the band think the solos go on for too long and are boring as they`re full of keyboards. Fools, like solos can`t be shortened to compensate for having no keyboards?

I know - which makes it even more infuriating. Both songs work great without keys - have seen/heard it done, and the songs really work as guitar-based songs.

Just had a look at the above link, like the band, think the Hitchin gig will get me (and a few mates if possible) along.

Be great to see you there. Please come over and say hi. It should be a very hot and packed gig at The Vic and will be great fun.

BTW we've just added 4 studio demos to our Lemonrock page and our website. If they were'nt there when you looked earlier they are worth checking out ;)
