Ive got a new band and were really stuck for a name. We want a one word creation and we need it pretty soon due to a massive level of interest we have gained since forming. We play a strange, unique mix of Progressive/Groove/Southern/Melodic metal. Mastodon as the closest thing we can compare it to sound-wise.

I'd really appreciate some help here as we have been looking for a name for ages and its becoming a bit of a nightmare. It dosent have to be anything obviously metal ( we want to avoid any stereotypical "brutal" names e.g. decapitated). So yeah any suggestions would be a huge help !

Cheers! :)

I'd recommend one of these:

Or one of these:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Norse...logical_figures
Or one these:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Etrus...logical_figures
etc, etc... I'm sure there are plenty more! Pick something nice an obscure but cool-sounding and then you can tell people what it means if they ask you :) "Greek Goddess of the sea's bounty" sounds fairly cool but with a name like Doris, it's probably worth leaving

Pavement already taken... one of the greatest slacker bands of the 90's on domino records. and there was a brit band called radiator a few years ago?

awesome band, a personal favourite of mine.

re: name ideas. the two words that flashed into my head were 'pond' and 'unbearded'. but to be honest, words like that often pop up randomly in my mind. i don't usually pay much attention to it.

Some kind of cool phenomenon works well.

Given that most bands (even big bands) have terrible names, the actual name itself isn't that important. In the internet age, good band names follow three main rules:
1) After hearing the name they can find your myspace
2) the website (www.randybarrieandthepaddywhackers.com etc etc etc) is not taken
3) When someone asks you what your band is called, you don't feel like an eejit when telling them.

My vote:
Sick on a Widow.

You could always go the online band name generator route. Here's a few links:

So which part of "one word creation" are some of you struggling with?

:)

Can'tDoSleepy is absolutely right about finding your band on the net ... I mentioned this in the thread about the Presidents of the United States of America who are a great band with a feckin' silly name which makes it virtually impossible to find anything about them.

My vote?

MLTDWN

What does it mean?

Whatever you like.

How about 'hooters'?
