Count Bassy Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 (edited) Well yes it is, but it did make me think: If you didn't know what it was, and only heard it, would it really jump out at you that the bass kept changing? I don't think it would to me. Count (Cloth Eared) Bassy Edited August 6, 2012 by Count Bassy Quote

jaydentaku Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 I really enjoy that. Alembic sounded particularly awesome. Quote

geoffbassist Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Great video and what a fantastic player! I also really liked the Warwick. Quote

Loved the sound of the fretless stingray too. Quote
Roland Rock Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 What a great vid, and playing. The Jazz was my favourite, and I also quite liked the fretless 'Ray and the Star. Every time the fretted 'Ray came on, I involountarily winced - way too trebly for me, and quite unpleasant IMO. I especially loved the Slap tone on the Star - very Larry Graham. Lovely. Quote
krysh Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012
Superb! I liked the Warwick Star Bass best.
+1. good that I have my starfire. Quote
Warwick_Official Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 (edited) Ha, I did the same thing! I just love the sound of the Star Bass. Its got so much vibe, and is so versatile. Next on my list, for sure. Thanks for posting! Edited August 6, 2012 by Warwick_Official Quote
GarethFlatlands Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 (edited) Good video, I watched blind and my favourites were the Warwick Star, Alembic and the fretless 'Ray. The Streamer was a bit too refined and the burgundy Ray was too high end sounding for me. Nothing wrong with the Jazz but I preferred the other 3 I mentioned. Oddly, if you put all the basses in front of me and said I could have 1 but had 10 seconds to decide (not hearing or playing any) I think I'd have gone for the Streamer or the Jazz. Proof that you should listen with your ears and not your eyes. Edited August 6, 2012 by GarethFlatlands Quote
alstocko Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Excellente! A good insight into sound comparison, it's hard to do each instrument justice in so little time Quote
risingson Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Great idea, I liked the Warwick hollowbody. Incidentally this was the song that really got me working hard at playing bass, Zender was my big inspiration and I really think the bass part on that particular tune is inspired. Quote
Mornats Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 I was reading through the comments as it was playing but scrolled back up when I heard a nice bass sound and it was the two Warwicks every time. The Star then the Streamer for me. I could spot the fretted Stingray every time (I winced at the sound...). Always liked the idea of a Stingray, being a big Flea fan but tried one and it was a horrible clangy piece of crap in my opinion. Perhaps a bad example combined with bad playing but it was truly dreadful for me. Different strokes and all that... Quote
steve-bbb Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 very interesting when all compared so close together in conitnuity like this normally am a big warwick and ray tone fan but these ones didnt do it for me although the star was my personal fave of the two warwicks J by a mile for me wonder how much difference there would be through a different rig? Quote
OliverBlackman Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Jazz was my favourite to. Although the Warwick star was surprisingly tasty! Quote
AntLockyer Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Just got round to listening to this, the Warwick star for me was awesome and the alembic second but for different reasons. Quote
RhysP Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 I thought the Warwick Star was by far the best one on there - great sound & looked pretty good too. Quote

I could hear differences (many of them not that strongly), but then I knew (and could see) that they changed. Quote
Gust0o Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 I watched this one video and now I too can say that the Stingray is twangy crap Seriously, skip lunch before playing one. You'll want to save space for when you eat up those words In related news: EQ. Great vid, enjoyed it! Quote
