mrdreadful Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 By remarkable coincidence I've just got a permanent job. Clearly it's fate. Quote
TPJ Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012
It looks good but, sadly, does not receive the seal of approval as the scale is too short. Not recommended.
Why not recommended? There are plenty of short and medium scale bass lovers out there. 32" is a very happy medium...it worked great on the Kubicki and those are great basses as well as the Birdsongs which are 31.5". uncle psychosis Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 I want to like that but I think its hideous. Quote
jaydentaku Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 I dislike Fender, but the Tele is the least foul in my opinion. I would not say no. Quote
Musicman20 Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Nice but id be happier with 34 inch scale. Quote
Donnyboy Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012
Why not recommended?
so it's not really a shortie then? what's a " normal " P? I was thinking it was kinda Mustang scale but I'm maybe wrong. Quote
Machines Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 I'm surprised it's not a 34" scale but for this kind of thing I don't think it'd cause an issue tonally. I think longer scales are more important when seeking out a more refined 'clear' tone, that isn't what these are for. EDIT: Damn curiosity, I want one of these now: http://www.fender.com/en-GB/products/search.php/?partno=0327602506 Quote
skankdelvar Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 (edited) That's not a Squier. It's a Jedson from about 1973 - same as my mate Baz Barrell's first bass. Mr Justin Norvell's first mis-step at Fender, methinks. And so it begins - Fender's twenty-five year cyclical dive into hubris and disaster. Edited August 7, 2012 by skankdelvar Quote
StevieD_FenderP2009 Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 I really like these for some reason. Only thing I don't really like is the woofer pick up. I'd have to stick a DiMarzio Model One in there and a Seymour Duncan STK-J1 in the bridge with a Badass II bridge or a jazz style bridge cover just to make up for what looks to me like an empty back end on the bass. Also, the fact it's one of the Squier VM series means it's going to be a seriously well built bass Quote
xilddx Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012
*GRIN* Horrible. Another nasty Fender parts bin bass. Might actually be more ugly than the G&L asshat...
Those G&Ls are truly ugly! Quote
Billy Apple Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 I thought I'd like these, but I don't. Look a bit Frankenbass to me. The mid scale makes them look dumpy and the bridge pup destroys the aesthetic. Quote
benebass Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012
the bridge pup destroys the aesthetic.
I agree - the single pickup version looks a lot better... Quote
Ou7shined Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012
A bit like the Esquire
Oh ma heid. Quote
shizznit Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 I like it, but I would also like to see Fender work on something a bit more modern. Something that can go head to head with the G&L ASAT Quote
gemdids Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Oh god....this is pretty much the bass I've been waiting for, all that maple! Love it. I will be getting one of these. (Also agree that the switch plate on the vintage white model looks a bit crooked) Quote
benebass Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012
Pickup selector for 1 pup.
Remarkable tonal versatility comes from a single powerful Duncan Designed™ PB-102 SCPB single-coil pickup and three-way switching among special tone circuits, which feature a modern bass sound (middle switch position, volume and tone controls), softer "double bass" sound (neck switch position, volume control only) and authentic tic-tac "baritone" sound (bridge switch position, volume control only). Some sort of preset filtering by the look of it... Ou7shined Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Omg so that's a real bass. I thought someone was having a bit of fun with photoshop. It's amazing how I've been making do with just a simple vol/tone set up on my SCPB single coil gigging bass. Got to build me a varitone in it now. Quote
TomWIC Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Don't suppose anyone's been quoted a price for these yet? Apologies if I've read over it and not noticed Quote
