Chrismanbass
Hi Folks so i'm quite excited at the moment as i've been asked to go on tour for the first time ever. Unfortunately its nothing major just a few dates playing for a mate doing his songs however i'm just wondering what to do about my amp? I have a LM3 which i have a rack case for with the traveler 2 x 10 and markbass' standard 15 cab does anyone know of anywhere that would do flightcases for them or would i have to have them built for them? cheers Chris

BigRedX
What transport are you using and who's going to be loading in and out the gear? You probably don't need flight cases for your cabs unless you are sharing transport with another band on the tour and/or you have a dedicated road crew or will be using staff at the venues for the load in and out. Chrismanbass
na its just us in a splitter van so that was another option just to get some covers to put over stuff instead of cases i'll check flightcase warehouse out thanks guys
chris_b
If you are the only one moving your gear then covers for the cabs should be sufficient. Flight cases will be very expensive and not really required unless you let the local gorillas move your gear. Your amp should be fine in its rack. Westie9
I've just got a Roqsolid cover for my Barefaced S12T. I paid extra to have the front sleeve fitted to the cover so I can slide a piece of plywood in to help protect the grill. Really impressed with the fit and for £50, a sound investment. Flightcases are great, expensive, but watch out for the weight....

Until I had to lift it into the back of the car.
BigRedX
Somethings things to bear in mind regarding flightcasing cabs: You've got some nice lightweight cabs, putting them in flightcases will pretty much double their weight as well as adding 2-3" inches all round to their size and more on the bottom if you intend on adding castors - which you'll want to do with the increase in weight. The only advantage I can see to having your rig flightcased, would be if you had the whole thing - cabs, amp and any other rack-mounted units or gear that would normally sit on top of your amp, built into a single wheeled case with everything permanently wired up inside. That way you can wheel the rig into the venue onto the stage, take off the lids, plug it into the mains and plug you bass in and your ready to go. Great for getting on and off stage quickly. However it'll only be worth doing if you're going to be playing reasonable sized venues and don't have to manoeuvre it up and down lots of stairs - and off course if it will still fit in your van. Chrismanbass
Cheers for the advice guys i lifted the guitarists Vox which is flightcased yesterday and pretty much instantly decided that since i'm going to be moving my gear i won't bother with them i guess they're for when your rich and famous enough to have people moving your gear around for you? mike257
Wouldn't flightcase my big bass rig, its enough of s lift already - as others have said, its just not worth it for a little club tour in a splitter van. Having said that, I've been tempted to get a flightcase for my guitar cab just so I've got something handy to stand it on at gigs, need to get it closer to my ears! ukdude
Hi Chris Flight cases are heavy and expensive, so maybe look at padded covers. 3D Flight Cases offerr both cases http://www.3d-cases.co.uk/flight-case/index.php and a custom cover service http://www.3d-cases.co.uk/padded-bag/index.php Enjoy your first tour ! Paul S
I don't know how big the MB head is but for both my TC Electronic Classic 450, GenzBenz Streamliner 600 and also a newly acquired Line6 G50 wireless kit I use one of these ali cases from Maplin Electronics http://www.maplin.co.uk/home-and-diy/storage-boxes-and-accessories/flight-and-rugged-cases the plastic rugged cases are pretty tough and on offer at the moment. Just be sure of the internal measurements, as they vary. My Barefaced cabs just get a Roqsolid cover - liking the idea of a sheet of ply, too, if needs be.
