Since I finally got some decent gold knobs for the Tune TWB43-BB I bought last year, I thought it was time to take some "adult" pictures of it. I took it down to my photographic studio*, dug out my old Pentax and tripod, and snapped away. The good shots are in the gallery at full size, but here are a few choice selections:

Those knobs were $25 for 5 from the USA via eBay, solid brass. Strings are Elite Stadium 40-100 (nickel), not new, so a bit dull.

If I ever make it big, I'll be on to the Bass Maniacs in Japan, but until then, I'll make do with the Korean Tune.

* a blanket on my living room floor :)
That's really nice, the gold hardware looks really nice :) makes me think about putting gold hardware on my tobias (also bubinga), it's currently black and looks a little tacky.
It came with the gold bridge and tuners, but the knobs were black, the kind of cheapo Maplin collet knobs I detest. From the brochure I see that those are on all the basses, which is a strange omission, I thought.

I think the 5- and 6-string versions of this look even better, and I may do that some day, but I did want a 4-string...

I must take some proper pics of my TWB53FM and post them.

Isn't it interesting that the ony Tune users on BC (AFAIK) are both in Dublin?

Nice TWB, BNT. I've always considered replacing my black knobs with some gold ones to match the rest of the hardware - it really makes an already classy-looking bass look even more classy.

What's weird is that the only place I've actually seen them on sale is here: Walton's, a.k.a. the SX Emporium... and I bought mine from Germany. Walton's want(ed) over €800 for a TWB43, while mine was €420 + shipping. :)

Hi Tune-smiths!

As a recent newcomer to BC, having a general look around, I'm pleased to have found at least a couple of other Tune users here.

I got my Tune TWB-6 back in '96 from the Bass Centre, London, and love it - both the look and sound.
It's a Japanese model from I believe 1995, though could be earlier.
The bass has been with me for gigs/tours around the UK and Europe and not let me down apart from needing a new barrel input a year or so back.

bnt - great looking TWB43 you have there - and I love the gold knobs.
I've resisted any mods up to now but seeing that, I may just have to go for it...

Cheers,
Steve.

My, that's tasty! When I strike it rich... Japan, here I come. That might tempt me in to my first 6-er.
I don't think I'd mind those knobs, much nicer than the cheap & nasty ones that mine came with.

Thanks m8 - glad you like it. Nice chord possibilities with a 6, too.

I did a bit of digging on ebay re the gold knobs and found some at 'guitarpartsworldwide' (Item number: 130212540133).
I was wondering where it was you found yours and how these compared. Also curious, are yours the 'grub screw' type? Or do they push on to the control post (split-type)? I'm not so familiar with the later Tune basses.

My bass has solid spindles, not splined or split. The knobs I got were these, which are 6mm set screw types. The same seller has other types, including splined.

Just came back to this thread tonight. I got mine in Vegas, when they were $600. A mate brought it back for me from a leisure trip, so no shipping cost. :)

I'm going to get to the gold knobs in the next week or two. I'm also doing the intonation/neck-relief/action soon too - SamAsh hadn't done too good a job from the start. I don't play mine half as much as I'd like to, so this is my year of the Tune . . .

Just thought I'd revive this thread and see how many other Tune players might now be on Basschat.

Also, here's a bunch of pages with various specs from the Tune catalogue.

I still haven't read or seen what oil to put on this thing..... I don't understand why

Appreciate you're new to Basschat so welcome and apologies for the seemingly late reply but some topics get more 'traffic' than others and it depends who's around to answer specific questions.

Personally, I've not been on BC for a while (just busy) and just spotted your posts, but in answer to your question, you might try the Jim Dunlop 65 series of cleaning products (including lemon oil).
Nice TWB43 btw 👍. It just so happens I recently picked up another Tune, a TWB4Z (w/piezo pickup), right here on Basschat. They're excellent basses. Hope you enjoy yours 🙂
