Jazz Pickups - Which Way Up?

Does it matter which way up you install Jazz pickups.... i.e. should the wires run from the E string end (and I guess under the pick-up) or from the G string end to the control cavity?

(Sorry if already answered... a quick search didn't turn up anything obvious).

I have honestly never considered this... I'd guess it shouldn't make any difference but my pick would be from the G string end (shorter distance to travel)

+1, wires come out at the G string end.

Great - that seems the most sensible. Was checking over a gumtree purchase and noticed that it was wired the "long way" round.
