Musicman20 Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7spc7CHbT_Q Back pup...love it. Its partly his technique but I like this bass. I bet they are nigh on £3K now. Quote
ChrisG Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 (edited) I really like the one I just picked up on the for sale forum although it's an older NT rather than a bolt on. I did watch this video before I made my purchase. I should note that my technique is not nearly as good. I've got a price list for 2012 here - they are just over £2K for a thumb 5 bolt on (that doesn't include any optional extras of course...) Edited August 13, 2012 by ChrisG Quote
Dingus Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 That is one fabulous sounding bass. I have always loved the sound of Warwick Thumb Basses : for my money they are one of the best sounding ( and looking) basses ever. They have got such a rich and focused tone that will cut through in any situation and a beautifully crisp attack to the notes that seem to pop out from your fingers as you play. It's just a shame that , for me at least, the ergonomics of this model are a bit of an aquired taste ; I personally find the Streamer body shape far more comfortable . What this video demonstrates to me is that , unlike a lot of exotic wood basses , Warwicks have got enough grit and guts in their sound to make themselves heard in a loud band situation, and that is one of their great strenghths in my opinion. I suppose the fact that so many big - name players in the hard/ alternative rock genre are gravitating towards Wawicks nowadays is testament to this. Quote
Darkstrike Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 Goodness, that bass sounds incredible! Quote
Musicman20 Posted August 13, 2012 Author Posted August 13, 2012 It does sound fantastic doesn't it! Perfect for back pickup digging in which personally I love!!! Quote
Darkstrike Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 Definitely got me hot and botherd for something I never really considered an option before. Quote

bcbass Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 Few cons:terible neck dive, narrow string spacing at bridge for 5er(16,5mm),always on EQ adjusting tone I like. When I sold my Thumb,I was extremely happy Quote
Musicman20 Posted August 13, 2012 Author Posted August 13, 2012 I'm on 17.5 mm at the mo anyway, so close ish. Quote
Jigster Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 I think Sandberg, altho I guess less inconic than Wicks right now, has to be chucked in here. I've owned a Warwick, German made, and right now am on my second Sandberg. The Bergs are sensational instruments - and a whole lot better looking than Warwicks Quote

nottswarwick Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 (edited) What amp head is in that vid? Warwick WA something....looked on their site. Shame I cannot afford a warwick bass - my user name is long out of date when i used to use one.. Edited August 13, 2012 by nottswarwick Quote
Warwick_Official Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 Its either the WA 300 or the WA 600. They are modeled after the Hellborg line of high-end amps, but designed to fit into a more affordable package. I use the WA600 myself, and they are just fantastic. You can read more about them here: WA300: http://www.warwick.de/modules/produkte/produkt.php?submenuID=14673&katID=24035&linkID=47522&&cl=EN WA600: http://www.warwick.de/modules/produkte/produkt.php?submenuID=14673&katID=24035&linkID=47446&&cl=EN Please let me know if you've got any questions or if I can assist in any way. Thanks! Quote
eude Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 Yup, I agree Gareth, that's a really special sounding bass. I used to have a Thumb Bass BO 5 string which sounded amazing! I've got some pretty nice sounding recordings with an old band, just Thumb Bass straight into a Sansamp, everything flat, bar a tiny bit of grit on the Sansamp. One of my favourite tones ever. If somehow it could've been a medium scale bass I'd likely still have it! Cheers, Eude Quote
