nugget
Started on another one this weekend, been playing a P bass type thing but wanted something a bit more verstile so going for a Delano Hybrid and a jazz in the neck. I love the delano hybrid, great active musicman style but with a std passive jazz built into the same housing, adding a jazz in the neck gives me active musicman and fully passive jazz in one.... It's gonna be rippled olive ash body with figured bubinga top, maple neck with zebrano fretboard Got quite a bit on right now so progress might be slow but I wanna crack on with this one... Truckstop
Don't wanna be a dick or anything, but that top would ruin that bass for me. The olive is beautiful. I'd much rather buy it with just the olive and a clear pickguard. Maybe use the bubinga top for another bass that isn't quite so busy? Of course I'm sure it'll look lovely whatever you decided to do, but IMO the bubinga's a little too much! Truckstop

Truckstop
I understand - the olive ash is stunning, but when it was bookmatched only one side looks right - due to the thickness and the crazy colour patterns the grain changes massively through to the other side, the 'top' side doesnt look good so needs something covering it. It wouldn't look right otherwise, I'll take photos to show what I meen soon Ta for the comments Dave
nugget
That neck! What a lovely piece of wood!
It is - it came from tyler hardwoods in Marlborough, they have some stunning planks for not much cash. Highly recommended (just in case anyone was looking for very good cheap timber)

Jabba_the_gut
That neck looks wonderful. Out of interest, what are the two bars running parallel to the truss rod?
nugget
They are carbon rods, the silver tape is just to stop any dust getting in trussrod during the build Dave
nugget
Did a bit more yesterday Wanted to make the control cavity cover cut out of the body wood so that it matches perfectly. Routed the cavity leaving 5mm and then routed round the edge down to 3mm. I wanted to leave the middle a bit thicker for strength Then using a fretsaw cut round a couple of mm inside that routed cavity to leave a little lip for an insert to sit on Then made a little inset to fit in the cavity with a battery holder and a lip for the cover to sit flush The insert is a bit rough right now but will clean it up when its glued in. It's glued in now and the bubinga top is glued up and clamped up right now. Will try and get a few more pix tomorrow. Ta Dave

nugget
Thanks for the cool comments! Did a little more this weekend inbetween fitting a new fretboard to a P bass Routed pickup cavity and tried for size -the bridge is only held on with one screw hence why it doesnt look parallel. The edges were routed with a 9mm radius but I wanted to see the black accent laminate and the ash to show a little when looking from the front so I got a 19mm rad bit which has done the job. The insides of the horns aren't done yet as the router wont fit down there so I'll do them by hand Got some other little projects to do now so this will probably be on hold for a while unless I can squeeze a bit of time here and there, shame as there isnt too much more to do to this
