It gives this as A 7th Sus.

Except there's no C in that chart that I can see.

And it gives this as an A minor 7

Now I'm no theory buff, but how can a minor 7 and a sus. 7th have exactly the same notes?

What instrument is this for? Where did you get the chart?

It's meant to be for bass. it's this one

I think it's a harmonium chart from India.

They've labelled the chord tones for the sus7 wrong - the fretboard notes look right.

If it is a harmonium chart I suspect it's correct.

the single best bass chords book I've found is this one:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Chord-Bassics-Compact-Reference-Library/dp/0825610583

By mucho respected player Jonas Hellborg. Really easy to follow diagrams and a logical layout.

£3.83 on Amazon. If you don't find it useful I'll reimburse you! :D

I know. I've also found another two errors. FFS - I'm trying to learn this stuff and having a chord chart that's full of sh*t isn't helping :D

Why not go with the music theory instead of pictures? You can work out your own fingerings

I try. But I really struggle with theory. I had a teacher for a while but I just couldn't afford it any more. I've got the Bass Guitar for dummies book and even that got too complicated - I must be a real dumbass.

'ello again.. Mmmm nice cuppa... Anyway, YES! I have this book. It's brilliant and fits in a guitar case. Jonas once gave me a personal demo of his crazy bass rig and equally crazy bass chops. Nice chap lol!

Ah. So Asus7 is A-D-E-G, not A-C-E-G, although the chart is right, and A min7 is A-C-E-G. In those diagrams the clear square is the root note or octave (in the case above, A) and the remaining black dots are the chord tones on each string. What is confusing is that there are the same pitches on different strings. For example, the octave A is on the D string at the 7th fret but also on the G string at the 2nd fret. So it is a chord chard showing all the chord tones on each string, apparently up to the 7th fret. Not very well explained in the book and some fret numbers would have been useful. I'd be surprised if it were written by a bass player.
You can work this out for yourself as long as you know what the notes of the chord are, and how to find notes on each string. they're just shapes. Far better IMHO to learn the chord tones for one given chord and then go through the cycle of fourths without shifting position.

As said above, the Asus7 chord should have A-D-E-G (so there's a typo in the list of notes) but the chart is correct.

The Amin7 chord should be A-C-E-G (so the list of notes is correct), but there's a typo in the chart, because open D isn't part of the chord. That black dot should be on the G-string instead.

I was about to say, and this is coming from someone with no knowledge of anything at all and very much a beginner on bass, wouldn't it be easier to learn what notes are in the chords you want to play (or what chords are formed by the notes you want to play), and then just putting your fingers on those notes? Is that not how one usually learns with bass?
