Jesso Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 My band are thinking about playing Fun - We are young as a cover version. It's a huge song here in Ireland (and the UK too I'd say). We only have one keyboard, which will be doing the piano bits, so it'll be up to me to get that HUUUUUGE bass synth sound. Thiing is, I don't have any pedals for doing stuff like that at the moment. I'm thinking an ocatve pedal and a distortion.... or maybe there's a synth pedal that will do it for me. Anyway, just looking for suggestions before I go buying a load of pedals that don't sound right! Here's the song just incase you haven't heard it before. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sv6dMFF_yts Quote
andydye Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 On my phone's crappy speaker it sounds like fuzz bass to me, something that has a wet/dry mix knob would be great, and probably an octaver too wouldn't do any harm Quote
simwells Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Not got the best speakers either here but sounds like some sort of distorted sawtooth synth pad. So you can probably get pretty close with a synthy fuzz, octaver would be nice or if you're happy to spend the money an Octavius Squeezer would get the sound from a single pedal. Quote
LiamPodmore Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Definately a fuzz i would think, sounds like there's an octaver on in some places to me as well, but i'm not sure if it's on all the way through. Liam Quote
fraff Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 The Digitech bass synth wah on its (not bad) octave down setting might give you a fair stab at the synth and octave in one pedal - then run it into a fuzz. From my set up I'd plump for my Prunes & Custard as that's a pretty squelchy fuzz. Quote
craigcapener Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Yep i think the guys before me got it..sounds like just a good bass fuzz, blended with a clean tone. Didn't really pick out any octave effect though. Quote
Jesso Posted August 16, 2012 Author Posted August 16, 2012 Thanks all. Was gunna take a punt on an mxr octave pedal, the delux one with the growl feature.... I also have a big muff somewhere, for extra fuzz should I need it. I'll look into the digitech wah though as well see if I can get one for reasonable money. Quote
Bigwan Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 One of those furry elephant type fuzzes would probably get you close without an octave Jesse Quote
fraff Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 The BSWs come up on here quite regularly and are usually pretty reasonably priced I reckon. tonyquipment Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 I would simply run an octave with some overdrive Maybe a 60/40 blend to octave. Quote
