Rickenfaker Pickup Question

Hi folks,

just to see if anyone here has attempted, or heard tale of, fitting the EB-0 sidewinder ( or mudbucker as I've seen it called ) in the neck position of a 4001 bass. This one is a 70's CMI copy. Just to see if there were any problems inherent. It will have a genuine ric bridge pickup, all new mono electrics, and some fancy plastics from pickguardian. It just seems that an awful lot of wood will have to come out the cavity to get the big pickup in!

Anyone done it?

Some 70s copies came like that, might be better off trading toward one of those, because the not bucker ones are kind of more desireable. My CMI has enough space to fit one without routing I should think, have you looked under the plate?

I was given the bare guitar, no hardware aside the strap buttons and the cmi trc. I had a bridge pickup with a really ratty surround. To balance cost vs appearance I decided to get a chrome look perspex bridge plate from pickguardian andt their extended pickguard- goes right back to the bridge plate. This is coming uncut in the neck pickup position. I got the artec sidewinder pickup, new and unfitted from a mate who didn't finish a build of his own. so that's how its going to go. The neck rout will not take the pickup, its very chunky. It does fit in the electrical cavity without protruding over edge. I'm just not sure about routing the neck itself as deep as that!

If it is a depth issue, then probably not a goer, geed as much wood at the neck end as possible.

Now I can see your pic better on the PC rather than the phone, your neck rout is way deeper than mine! I'm going to give it to a luthier and see if it can be done. But I'll start looking at plan B! Thanks

I put a Dimarzio Model One in mine. The rout was just deep enough, and shaped like Mr. Foxen's, though I had to fill in the sides some, to give the Model One's screws somplace to do their work.

Sounds awesome though! Totally worth it.
