jazzyvee
I've just bought a 3/4 double bass and have to drive to collect it. Im now wondering whether it will fit in my car. I drive a 7 series BMW. Any idea? If not I may need to hire a car for the day to collect it. Any idea of the smallest hatchback or estate car that will hold the bass? Thanks in advance Jazzyvee
Beer of the Bass
I've no BMW experience (my bass is worth several times more than the last car I owned!), but if it's a saloon it can be impossible to get the bass in from the back, though you can usually recline the front seat right back and put the bass upside-down in the passenger seat, with the scroll in the footwell and the heel resting on the seat. You may need to remove the headrest from the passenger seat to do this. If you're renting, almost any hatchback will work - I've had mine in a Ford Ka and a Nissan Micra among others. In some of the tiny cars, getting to the handbrake can be a little awkward if you have the neck between the front seats, but not impossible. invicta59
I've had one in a Passat saloon before. Fortunately, the back seats dropped down and I was able to put the bass in the boot but it had to go in and rest bridge side down - not ideal, but it did the job and I was still able to carry a passenger. Happy Jack
I drive 5-series, but always the Touring so that's not going to help you. It all hinges on whether or not the back seats fold down, which seems unlikely on a 7 saloon. It's a bloody big car, mind, so I reckon the advice from Beer of the Bass (above) should see you through. If you're keen on DB then there's a lot to be said for driving an MPV with removable seats ...
OliverBlackman
fits in my 2000 Skoda fabia hatchback no problem (with the seats down obviously). It has also managed to fit in a Peugeot 307 fine.
Gareth Hughes
My first car was an early 90's VW Polo, bought solely for gigging with my upright. (Easier to hustle a lift with the electric for sure). I could fit my upright, a Hartke 2x10, a flight case for my amp head and a passenger in the front seat. So yep, should be fine with your car - unless it's like a Passat where the boot doesn't open up completely.
TheG
I got my bass in a Fiat Ciquencento years ago and more recently in a Peugeot 107. noojb
I did a gig last night with a double bass, bass amp, guitar, snare drum, cymbals, bass drum pedal and a guitarist and a drummer all in my little hatchback, so i reckon you should be alright with just a double bass. You can squeeze them into most cars!
TPJ
A bass will fit in just about any hatchback. The 7 series, last I looked, is far from a hatchback.
jaydentaku
I can think of one thing that fits into a BMW 7 series, but it would be very impolite of me to say so.

thisnameistaken
Yeah learning to play it is the fun part. Don't treat it like a bass guitar whatever you do.
Mabrothrax
I got me and a mate and a double bass in one of those huge polystyrene cases in a fiat punto. Much fun.

thumperbob 2002
There's a YouTube clip with a DB being transported in a smart car......... And I was wondering if it would go in my l200!
ubassman
Best car I have ever owned for transporting a Double bass is a Peugeot 2008 ..well worth looking into if anyone has some serious mileage to do or transports on a regular basis - the really cool part is the collapsible tailgate arrangement and that the seats all collapse via levers that you can operate from the back ...but quite happy to slum it in a 7 series Beamer if you want to trade ? !!
