kingysilvers
So I'm currently listening to and thoroughly enjoying the Can "Lost Tapes" box set and it has got me wondering about the rig Holger Czukay would of used during the Can years (I realise that does span a fair period), anybody able to shed some light on this? bremen
Truly a unique player. I've seen footage of them in the 70s and the backline just looks like the contents of a dozen second-hand music shops arranged as a wall. I know loads of their stuff was modified/home made/repurposed. Saw them live in 1979ish and he was playing telephones and typewriters while Rosco Gee, the bass player from Traffic, did the four-string thing. Karoli's guitar rig on that occasion looked like about 64 10" speakers in two huge shallow cabinets. Not much help, sorry. edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MC2PZ0LFJcw Edited August 17, 2012 by bremen
kingysilvers
Haha, that was actually a great reply, I knew there wasn't going to be a simple answer and it was more curiosity rather than looking to re-create that kind of sound. To hear the gigs were the kind of avant garde spectacular I have pictured in my head just makes me very jealous as I will never get to witness one for myself Edited August 17, 2012 by kingysilvers
bremen
I heard he wore gloves. Just like our Siddx.
bottomfeed
you can see some of the 'contents of a secondhand music shop arranged as a wall' type backline here.... Lots of boxes, some with FAL ( (Futuristic Aids Limited) written on them! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QLL2j8ZtxE I was really quite influenced by Can, as a youngster... Faust & Amon Duul II as well.... Tago Mago was my favourite Can album... some terrific grooves on it!

Stacker
Yeh, some guy, Holger: the Jazz bass and the white gloves! Started getting into them a few years back watching YouTube footage. FAL gear - jeez, I remember them when I was young. Loadsa bands seem to have at least one of them (amp head) with some equally non-descript cab. You never saw them in 'real' muso shops but often in those that sold crappy DJ gear and disco-truss!
