pobrien_ie Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Yep! Used to be into them a lot in the early days, but not so much now. IMO still a great live band! Quote
seashell Posted August 26, 2012 Author Posted August 26, 2012 I think they are lookin and sounding pretty good. :-) Quote
simon1964 Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Watching it and enjoying it a lot. Everything a rock band should be! Quote
bluesparky Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 I'm watching it too - sounding fantastic. Great band. Who is the photo on Taylor's kick frum of? There aren't many live bands around at the moment who do a show as good as them, and they always look like they enjoy every minute of it too. Quote
seashell Posted August 26, 2012 Author Posted August 26, 2012 Brill! Dave had his foot up on the monitor. That's the spirit! :-) Quote
pobrien_ie Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Great performance alright, but it's a bit like the Dave Grohl show though isn't it? He seems to be doing all the lead as well. Makes me wonder why Pat Smear was brought back in. Quote
mrtcat Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Killer band. Great live show. Taylor Hawkins once squared up to our drummer when he (our drummer) was drum tech for spinal tap at live earth. Makes me think he may be a dick as our drummer is a really nice chap who wouldn't hurt a fly. Quote
steve-bbb Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 well done the beeb wtf is the point of showing the first three songs of a live concert and then just pulling the plug??? Quote
steve-bbb Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 maybe they were too loud and some health and safety person from reading council pulled the plug Quote
Lozz196 Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Watched some of it - flitting between that an Celeb Big Brother. Not bad, but I thought DG seemed more shouty than usual. Quote
seashell Posted August 26, 2012 Author Posted August 26, 2012 Bloody Family Guy As if you couldnt see that any night of the week all year round. Quote
simon1964 Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 They're back on at 11.15 apparently. Why they couldn't have stuck the cartoons on first, and then shown the set in one go is beyond me! Quote
Musicman20 Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Pat Smear is essential purely because he is dead cool. Quote
verb Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Tis back on, Just done Monkey Wrench. Good band Quote
nottswarwick Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Turned it on in time for Monkey Wrench (been out giggin) Sounds good. I love Taylor Hawkins as a rock drummer. Love playing a coupl of theirs in a band I drum for sometimes. Tonight however he seems to be trying harder than usual to destroy his kit. Settle down my man. Quote
Taylor is the man! I took an ex-gf along to an Alanis Morissette gig for her birthday (she was the fan...not me!) and Taylor was her drummer back then. I noticed his incredible drumming way before he joined the Foo's. The rest of the band were quite ordinary, so he sticker out like a sore thumb. One one my fav drummers. Most drummers would pass out after 30mins if they played like him! Quote
leftyhook Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 saw them at Leeds on Friday. My young son is a big fan, Grohl his hero and TH his favourite drummer. I'm not much of a fan, but an amazing performance by the FF. Hawkins was out of this world. So much energy!! Rufus Taylor did a great job guesting on drums playing Tie your Mother Down. What a song live! Quote
Noah Deere Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 Thought they were great, as they usually are. Quote
Musicman20 Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 I think the problem seeing anyone covering the Foos is that most cover bands don't actually go for it live...they tend to stand still and concentrate. Half the adrenaline rush from seeing this band is the fact they absolutely love every second of it. Everyone can get in that zone no matter what your age (Pat Smear is in his 50s!). Quote
spongebob Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 I've always thought as the Foo's as a band which you quite like.....I just never really get excited about what they do. Some great - amazing - tracks, obviously a good solid live act, but for me they've always just lacked that special something. Maybe it's just me! Quote
Lozz196 Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012
Pat Smear is essential purely because he is dead cool.
Yep, he just has this look on his face when playing that says "F*ck me, I`m in The Foo Fighters, and I`m playing to thousands of people". You can see how much he enjoys playing, and that in itself is a quality I wish more musicians had. Quote
