Well if 200 out of 530 are 'custom shop' either the mass-production line guys are a pack of lazy herberts or the custom shop ain't that exclusive.

As for Fender, I'm going to put my finger in the air and say 750,000, including sub-brands like Squier and Gretsch and stuff. That's instruments, amps, accessories (exc picks because that would be silly).

The above relates to 2011. In 2007 the Gibson USA Factory was making 325 guitars a day. Just reading a thread of a guy who visited the plant is all - they've asked Mike Eldred, he only confirmed that they put out less than the above 200 Custom Shop Instruments per day (2011).

Custom shop & special edition labels are almost as misleading as the name Jazz Bass

But at least we know what a Jazz Bass is. Those other labels could mean anything (and usually, nothing)

"Gibson produces 530 guitars a day"

& some of them even get through quality control

Hang on, when did Gibson start using quality control? :P
