barneyg42
I currently have a Barefaced Compact but can't afford one of Alex's magical Midgets so I'm thinking of mating it with a Tc Electronics BC210, wondering if this is a reasonable match and if the BC is as good a lift as the Compact. It's a bit heavier I know but are the handles etc good. I'm running an Mxr di80 into a Crown power amp so plenty of watts. I have an Acme lowB but find its pretty heavy as the speakers have been replaced with something more substantial so will probably out this eventually. Thanks in advance
Lozz196
No doubts the tech-people will be along with specifics, but my impressions would be that the Compact will handle a lot more than the BC210, so in some ways you may find the addition of this cab limits what you can do, rather than extending it. But, as with anything sound-wise, try it and see. If it sounds good, invariably, that`s the best result.
gjones
Having had a compact (rated at 400watts) and a BC212 (rated at 250watts) the compact can handle a lot more power. My BC212 was very loud with my TC Electronic Classic 450 but started to distort when I put my Ashdown ABM 500 through it (TC amps have clever compressors built in which are gentler on speakers it seems). You would have to keep an eye on your volume levels if you paired them up to ensure you did not damage the BC210. barneyg42
Its nearly all pub gigs so volume isn't usually a problem and for bigger gigs we have pa support. I'm just trying to add a bit of zing, the Compact is a fantastic cab but if I'm slapping a bit I just missed that satisfying pop that tens and tweeters give, so it's a sound thing more than a volume thing. I heard I band, twin guitar setup, a while back and the bassist was just running a bc210 and it sounded excellent and loud. Hmm, I feel a trip to guitarguitar coming on......gas is a bastid! JTUK
Doubt this is a good match-up so if the sound is lacking you need a total rehink. 2 x210 would be a good start as that sounds more like the sound capability you are looking for. Weight save isn't any use, if the sound isn't there.

mokkat
dude, 30 day trial period!
xgsjx
What about adding a "bright box"? Markbass make a pop on box that just houses a tweeter & Trace Elliot used to make them with 4 tweeters in. Or if you're handy with tools & a soldering iron, one could be made in no time (you don't need to worry about box size). You could then decide if you want piezo or horn & pop a crossover on it. Simples.
chris_b
While you are saving up for a Midget I'd try different combinations of the cabs you have. Put the 210 on top so you can hear if it is getting stressed. The TC 210 is rated at 400 watts so for pub volumes I wouldn't think you could damage it, unless you were trying to knock down walls with your volume. Then your ears would die a long time before these cabs did.
barneyg42
I think for now I'll give the Acme a run at the next gig, it's just got so damn heavy with the replacement speakers. As I'm running out of a stereo power amp I can mix it up a bit sound wise. Thanks for all the advice, as usual BC comes to the rescue, now if you can all start me a Midget T fundraiser I'll be sorted!
