Ou7shined
I won this neck on ebags for a song but as usual it was too good to be true. He calls himself "a guitar tech by trade" in his other auctions so I couldn't help being a tad sarcy.
Hi the neck arrived in good nick today. It would have been perfect for what I had in mind only it is a 20 fret neck and not a 22 as advertised - the angle of the pic wasn't too helpful in this regard either. I was really after a 21 fret but when I saw your auction decided 22 (although unusual and would probably need a little alteration) would do. 20 frets is just not suitable for my requirements. Therefore I am going to have to return it to you and ask for a full refund. Also, to save any further confusion and hassle I should add that the (unloaded) P style bass neck you have for sale is also a 20 fret and not a 21 as stated in the description. The fully loaded one you have advertised is being described as a 21 fret too, again although not impossible, this would be a little unusual for a reissue (it is not easy to confirm from the pic) but seeing as you are a guitar tech by trade I assume you've not made the same basic error a third time. I look forward to your reply. Ooh I shouldn't) His past guitar auction descriptions are quite a larf too.

thedarxide
it does literally have 21 pieces of fret wire though I did go and look to see if he was counting a zero fret!

Delberthot
"APROX' 20 TEARS OLD, REFURBISHED BY MYSELF" I wouldn't want to buy a neck with 1 tear never mind 20 - and why is he shouting?
budget bassist
The photo in that first auction is actually of a 21 fret neck... so he said it was a 22 fret neck, took a picture of a 21 fret neck and sent you a 20 fret neck... what an idiot! Ou7shined
I can't see where you guys are getting 21 frets from. I've blown up the pic just to make sure (wish I'd done it before bidding) and it has 20 and is definitely the same neck I've got here. I don't know what a zero fret is. But I'll tell you what kind of an idiot (although his reply was nice enough) he is BB - he hasn't changed the listing since getting my email, therefore he is knowing misrepresenting the items. Perhaps he knew all along about this neck too. I mean the listing for this and especially this is creative writing at it's best. neepheid
+1 for it being a 20. There's one fret after the last dot which is fret 19.
Jono Bolton
I think some folk are missing the first link in your original post, third word in, that takes you to the neck that you won Ou7shined, which does indeed have 20 frets. A zero fret was a short lived 60's idea, whereby a fret was placed on the neck just after the nut. I can't remember what the reasoning behind it was, but it was pretty popular with Hofner and similar makers, but generally regarded as useless, which is why it's not very common. Some makers now still use it though, but not often.
Ou7shined
Ah well now I know. Ta Jon. And cheers Matt for your +1. You won't believe how many times I counted and recounted. I thought I was loosing it.
