^^ Nice work Garry. Genuinely moving and atmospheric; really well composed and played.

I wish I had the keyboard/piano skills of you guys!

Not going to have mine finished until the last minute on Sunday (I assume the deadline is midnight??)... I've got the bare bones of it laid out, I just need to spend some time mixing it.

Deadline is around midnight, as long as everyone is ok with it then reasonably late submissions can still be added (just obviously they won't get as much voting time.

Nice one, I'll definitely have something finished by then! Hopefully before :)

I personally don't mind late submissions but happy to follow the crowd on that decision.

My entry. I know the mix is awful but I don't think I'm gonna get time to redo it. It ended up infinitely more complicated than I'd planned. Some advice, if you end up with 7 tracks labelled "glitchy texture", you should take a step back and ask yourself if maybe you've overdone things.

I don't really expect anyone to like it, it's a little esoteric even for me, but I actually finished it which is a rarity for me, so i'm happy.

Oh, and the tiltle is relevant, I'll be impressed if anyone gets the reference. I was going to put it in the original cyrillic for full pretentious points but it seemed a little inconsiderate.

Can anyone recommend some software for this sort of thing?

Like up to 8 tracks with a few built in effects? I plan to use a line6 pod for guitars and a gtb6 for bass and just use various percussion type doodads for drums.

I don't have a particularly powerful computer so something that doesnt need loads of power would be great!

Cheers

Alex

PC or Mac?
I did mine in GarageBand on the Mac & for the bass, I took a mono 1/4 jack that's wired to one channel of a stereo 1/8 jack, plugged the 1/4 end into the fx send & the other end into the line in on the Mac.
No reason why you couldn't do the same on a PC with Reaper.

Don't knock yourself. That is a great track. I'm only listening on my laptop, but the mix sounded fine. I think you have far less work to do on yours than i have on mine....

I would have liked to have fixed issues with mine, but I don't think I will have time - so it will stand or fall, rough mix and exporting cockup included.

I will have to listen to all these entries again on a semi decent set of speakers.

Very nice! I'm all up for alternative stuff and this certainly floats my boat.

I think you're being hard on yourself as the mix sounds fine to me (I'm listening on headphones - no monitors at the moment). Maybe loosen up a wee bit on the compression; especially around the 2 minute mark when the distorted guitar kicks in (sounds like it's 'flattening' the other instruments a little). No big deal. Generally the mix sounds nicely wide and 'sparkly' (that's the best technical term I can offer!).

Anyway, nice work like I said. I particularly like the percussive/glitchy elements during the first half of the track - reminds me of early Aphex Twin (Ambient Works, etc).

I'm guessing Ponizovje is a reference to Metal Gear Solid 3?? (yes, I have access to Google… and yes, I'm a games geek).

So, I'd just need a 1/4" to 1/8" cable?
You want a mono (TS) 1/4 jack wired to just 1 side of a stereo (TRS) 1/8 jack (they're usually called 3.5mm jacks). Popping a mono jack into your computer might (though it might not) do some damage & popping a stereo 1/4 jack into your fx send or bass might not send anything if the sleeve gets no contact.
You might need to make the cable up yourself.

Mind & don't plug into a speaker out! :)

Nothing wrong with the mix through earphones to my ears. I like it, sounds very Tangerene Dream to me (that's a good thing).

I might be posting something (if I get it finished in time). How do I post to the Basschat Soundcloud account?
Very easy. This will probably make it sound more complicated than need be, but what you need to do is...

1) Sign up to SoundCloud (it's free) http://soundcloud.com/

2) Join the Basschat SoundCloud group by clicking on this link and then clicking the button 'Join Group' (just beneath the title) http://soundcloud.com/groups/basschat

3) Click on the link marked 'Upload & Share' (top of page) to upload your music.

4) Once you have a track uploaded, click on the 'Share to group' button (located in the menu immediately above the track itself); choose the Basschat group and Bob's your uncle!

When I had a quick look earlier there was a load of stuff about signing in with Facebook which I'm not prepared to do.
Yeah, you can log in to SoundCloud (and Basschat, I think?) using a Facebook profile if you like - but I always prefer to set up a separate account as I'm no fan of Facebook either!
