First concert I ever saw was in the beursschouwburg in Brussels..A friend took me along to see an unknown Irish band which came for the first time to Belgium.. They had to add a local support act to fill the hall since they couldn't fill it on their own.
U2 was just amazing that night and had just released "Boy".
I saw U2 around the same time at The Boat Club in Nottingham - smallish venue with less than 100 people present. I knew nothing about them at the time and friend who had seen them previously dragged me along. One of his work mates who also came to the gig was from Dublin and knew them personally so we got to chat with Bono and the Edge afterwards. Fantastic gig - went out and bought "Boy" the following day.

My first gig was a school trip to see Motorhead, Hull City Hall, 22nd June 1983.

I was 14, and along with half my class - ie the lads - had (in a rare display of unity) refused point blank to go on the "official" end of year class trip to see Kajagoogoo . I'm mean WTF, Kajagoogoo?? Our form tutor took sympathy and said fair enough and he would sanction an alternative class trip to "some other event" of our choosing - if we organised it entirely by ourselves. He went a bit pale when he found out what we booked...and paler still when the support act (Anvil) opened the show with guitars played with vibrators.

On the whole I'd say it was the most educational school trip of the whole miserable five years.

(edit: line up was Lemmy, Philthy Taylor and Robbo Robertson - I didn't make the Thin Lizzy connection until years later!)

First pukkah gig - Hamburg, November 1962 - The guys in the band were John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.
Saw the first two songs (can't remember what they were) before the bouncer slung us out for being way too young to be in that part of the world.

First gig (other than about 3 local pub gigs) I ever went to ..........

You'll love this

The band members were -

Robert Plant , Jimmy Page , John Bonham and John Paul Jones. :)

I wish I'd appreciated it more than I actually did at the time.

That's the one - I went to the 4th Aug show , the first one of the two.

The album was In through the Out Door - one of the tracks 'All of my Love'. In the middle is a little fanfare like synth solo. More than anything ever , in my life , hearing that solo acts as a time machine for me. I'm a hope filled 18 year old on a balmy summers night again. Where this fat , miserable bastard came from I've no idea !!!

And that is one of the many reasons why music is so wonderful and why we love it so much :-)

Bakithi Kumalo playing on Paul Simon's Graceland tour live and grooving for tens of thousands. Seriously - that was my first experience of live bass. No wonder I finally had to land on the bass :)

His playing drove the whole gig - impeccable, funky, sometimes brilliantly elastic.

*phew* even remembering it is fun :)

First gig was Humble Pie (about 1971) with Steve Marriott, Greg Ridley on bass, Jerry Shirley (drums) and I think Clem Clemson on guitar.

I remember my ears "whistling" for a couple of days afterwards!

I saw Humble Pie at one of the Reading festivals.......before they came on their roadies came out and put a big sheet down on the stage....we wondered what the heck that was about.....Stevie Marriott proceeded to gob all over the floor in between every song!!!!!! AND Greg Ridley (great bass player)played most of the set with blood pouring from the fingers of his right hand.

Yes, they were very entertaining, gig was at Loughborough Art College as I was living in Nottingham at the time. Never got to see them again though unfortunately. Seen Wishbone Ash several times over the years and quite a few bands at Nottingham Uni which was just about within walking distance home !

First 'proper' gig was Pantera, September 1994.
Manchester Apollo - in the 'seated' section.
Absolutely superb, Dimebag one of my favourite guitarists, Vinnie Paul also a favourite drummer of mine, Phil Anselmo great front man and Rex solid as ever on bass.
I particularly remember the atmosphere and raw power of the band.
