I'm thinking about trying to pick up a second hand roland v bass unit. I'm playing in a 80s tribute band and I'm trying to get some basic synth bass sounds. i.e. madonna/ human league etc.
I want to find out if the v bass is the way forward? has anyone got one in sussex/brighton that i could try??

Might be better off looking at a VB99 and a GK3B.

It will do all that and more.

The V-Bass is great, but I'd be more inclined to buy an actual keyboard and play synth bass
for that sort of stuff.

+1

I've dabbled with pretty much all the various guitar or bass style MIDI controllers and nearly all of them required me to modify my playing technique to such an extent that it was quicker and easier to learn how to play keyboards.

There are times when synth sounds made by modifying the bass with pedals or using a bass MIDI controller is the right way to go, but generally replicating synth bass originally played on keyboard isn't one of them.
