Jellyfish
Hi everyone. So I've recently noticed that playing the 23rd fret on my 5 string Ibanez Prestige causes massive amounts of buzzing, almost like rattling. The strings are at a standard height from the fretboard and the only thing I've seen that's had any effect on it is setting the string height stupidly high. I was wondering if it could be a possible problem with the fret itself? Any help is much appreciated. Jellyfish
Never mind! I've been lucky enough to discover that the 24th fret was loose and coming away from the body enough for my fingernail to get stuck when attempting to pry it from the bottom edge of the neck. A quick smack with the edge of something blunt but hard (a piece of wood!) knocked it back into place and my world has now stopped coming crashing down. Silvia Bluejay
Aww, all's well in the universe once again, then. This thread reminds me of my own experience with string buzzing - on the upright 4. Fingering a low C (on the A string) always produced a noise. So I dismantled the bridge, checked it thoroughly, cleaned it, added graphite into the grooves, cleaned the strings, made sure the tuning pegs were fine, then riassembled the lot. Now ALL the strings buzzed like mad! The cause - I finally discovered - was a loose tailpiece.
