dmz
Saving up my pennies for one of the following Status 5-string headless fretted basses; Stealth Streamline Kingbass Graphite Obviously these three will each feel quite different "in the hand" as it were. Would like to get some opinons about sound and feel from those Status owners on the forum. Currently trying to register with Statii.com but having IT issues with the site. Plan on going over to Colchester at some point to try them out if Rob has them available. Would be a good day out methinks ! May try and look for a second hand Energy Matrix 5 headless if such things exist in the interim.
cocco
Matrix means headed if it was me I'd go for a stealth I think. It looks like it would play the best of the 3, I can imagine the king bass being cumbersome by comparison and I don't like the idea of such a small body as the streamline. Fat Rich
I think some people struggle with the body shape of the Kingbass 1, the revised Kingbass 2 shape addressed some of those problems. I still find all Kingbasses too small, I prefer the classic Status shape of the S2 Classic. But that may be because I have chimp arms. The necks should all feel pretty similar as I believe they are all based off the same moulds, the Stealth and particularly the Streamline will be pretty light. The wooden basses can vary in weight quite a lot.... for example one my my S2 Classics (headed 5 string) weighs nearly 12lbs, another near identical spec weighs 8lbs. Happy Jack
Where are you based, DMZ? If you're within striking distance of Chiswick (London W4) you're welcome to come and spend an hour or two playing my Streamline 5.
TheGreek
I'll echo Jack's offer if you're near the Herts area...I've got a Kingbass 4 which I absolutely love..I would say more esthetically pleasing than the classic Status shape but obviously there are those who would disagree.. dmz
Thanks for the input so far guys. I'm based in South Wales so would be difficult to pop over of an evening. To be honest I could quite readily have one of each as there are aspects of the design in each I just love. Unfortunately my pockets aren't that deep. I have a few interesting basses that I could perhaps trade with people on this forum or Statii if they have one of the above on offer. As of this week, I have to admit a hankering for some kind of bolt-on headless 5-string Status, be it a Series 5000, an Energy 5, S-1 or the like.....anyone out there ? Just noticed this on youtube - nicely bonkers ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwfTO-ymKgw&feature=channel&list=UL ......even Rob Green would approve of the ending i'm sure. cocco
I'll have a graphite necked energy 4 soon if you want a look? I'm in South Wales too, I know it's not a 5er but it might be useful.

wal4string
Just spotted your post so I know I am a tad late. I have a Status S2 Classic V string headless which you are more than welcome to have a play. Bass and I both reside in Newport. Have owned many a bass over the years and the S2 outshines them all. Far better than a the Wal, Warwick, Fender Jazz and Stingray V's I have owned. A huge palette of sounds available from the pick ups.
