70 something? 77 or 76 maybe?

Assuming it's all original and not some sort of reliced reissue, on the evidence of the pics alone I'd say it's a '70 or '71, possibly an early '72.

Reasoning as follows:
- it has single groove saddles which puts it at 1970 or later
- it has lower thumb rest which puts it at pre-1974
- it has 60's bridge pickup positioning which puts it at pre-1972

It's this, although I think the bridge pickup is in the 70s position but it's the bridge is further back on the body than on the 74 and later. (which is why I needed extra long intonation screws, thanks again ikay!)

Something about the body finish and the control plate looks a bit odd, like it's been scoured. It's probably OK but I'd check the dates on the pots and neck stamp just to be certain.

[/quote]Agreed. And the A tuner. Take it apart, check the pots, solder joints, back of neck plate, to see if it mirrors the paint underneath it.

1970 - 72

Although the serial number suggests 1974, and although there were anomolies to what features stopped and what started when, I just can't reconcile that bridge pick-up positon with anything later than 1971. Having said that, I've got a Jazz with so called 70's position pickups where every other mark decries it as a 1969 issue. Go figure.

It's not a combination of two different basses is it, by any chance.... older body, newer neck?

Maybe a previous owner wanted 60s spacing for the sound, so shifted the bridge further back?

that pickup is in the 60's position.. you can tell by its position with the tone knob... 70's position is in line with it, 60's is slighty further forward..

Nominally it was 1973, but I've owned a 76 Jazz with four bolt at the same time as owning a 74 with three bolt. There's just no real telling. The "rules" are fraught with anomoly.

Yup, you're right, I need to get my eyes tested!

So it could be a late 60s with a 70s bridge, or maybe just a bitsa?

I agree with a Bass between 69 and 72.
Tuners are pre 72 and post 69 ( chrome)
It looks to have a long G string screw.

A picture of the pots will informed us.
