momark by markbass is confusing me!

Am i right in thinking you buy sections of it then patch them together to get a mark bass amp? or am i completely barking up the wrong tree?

I think you slot each component (pre, eq, master) into a chassis with a built in power section

I use a MoMark tube 800. Utterly love it, flattens the Genz Shuttle 9.0 I had previously in every way apart from size and weight.

This one, cause it came preloaded, but I do intend to replace the eq with the graphic when I can afford it.

I bought the 500w amp frame, solid state pre-amp, blank eq section and master with VLE & VPF filters. I later swapped the pre-amp for the tube one. Couldn't have been easier - ordered pre-amp from Mark at Bass Direct Friday morning, it arrived Saturday morning and was in place 10 minutes later. Oh, and the amp is a joy to use by the way.

I'm really tempted by these recently...

Do they have that updated built in limiter that was supposed to go in the LMIII? I've been really annoyed with my F1 recently, it's an amazing amp but since I've been getting stronger I've been brickwalling it constantly which really spoils my sound. Last gig I played I went DI from pedalboard and was the best sound i EVER had ... Anyway i'm rambling...

I would go for something fairly simple, but I'd try a tube pre, and have a SS pre spare in my bag in case i get clumsy and break the preamp valve

MarkBass have been offering MoMark kit at a discount for a while now.

Once you've lashed out for the basic chassis the individual modules can be really quite cheap.

I used one of the solid state 800 pre-built units a few times. Sounded great though a 4x10 + 2x10 stack

Hey man, did you notice any difference in the built in limiter circuit compared to the 'regular' Markbass heads?

Can't say that I really noticed any obvious limiting going on with the MoMark, just felt 'loose' and powerful - not sure if this helps, lol.

The honest answer is that I haven't used it enough to really tell. I picked up an old '67 Ampeg B15N and have been pretty much using that all the time recently.

I'll try to have a blast on the LMII soon

I don't blame you to be honest

Yeah I'm just considering the possibiliy of 'upgrading' to a MoMark system if the upgraded bi-band limiter is less likely to cramp my style! In the meantime I'm gonna experiment with turning the input gain down LOTS!
